Original application January 25, 1938, Serial. No. v 186,769. Divided and this application April 24, 1939, .Serial N0. 259,584:
ll Claim.
Thisinvention relates to new and useful improvements in a safety match cover.
This application is a division from our appli-.
ally connected thereto so .that when the match sheet is pivoted to expose. the match portions,
th match striking area will be-retracted to between said leaves for preventing said matches II from being struck thereon until the match portions are again interposed between said leaves.
Still further it is proposed to provide the casing with a closed side and an open portion on said side arranged so that said match sheet must be pivoted in one direction only to expose said match portions.
Still further the invention proposes the construction of a means associated with the close side of said casing for limiting said match sheet to pivot to a position in which it will be at right angles to said casing.
For further'comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will-be had. to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claim in which the various novel featuresof the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure--- Fig. l is a perspective view of a safety match cover constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a face view of the safety match cover illustrated in Fig. l, in an open position.
Fig. 3 is a similar view to Fig.1, but illustrating another form of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a face view of the match sheet illustrated in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a developed view of the blank from which the casings illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 are formed. The safety match cover, according to this'invention, incudes a casing 30 consisting of a front leaf 30 anda back leaf 30 which" are connected together at their top edges by an intermediate 1 portion St. The bottom of the front leaf w is formed with a tab 30 which is folded along the edge 36 leaf over the tab extension 80 of the back 7 A match sheet 3!! is disposed between the leaves 30* and 30 and is pivotallyconnected by means of a rivet or the like 32 engaged through the tabs 30 and 30 of the front and back leaves 3!) and 30', respectively. The front and back 6 leaves are provided with cutouts 33 for exposing match striking material 34 mounted on the base portion of said match sheet 36. In Figs. 3 and 4 the match striking material 34 is provided with a downward extending smooth projection 35 for it gripping and turning the match sheet 3i about the rivet 32.
While we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves 5 to the precise constructions herein disclosed and 'the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: 2' i "A safety match cover, comprising a casing formed of a strip of material consisting of a front leaf and a rear leaf connected together along their top edges, said front leaf being formed with. a downwardly extending tab at one side thereof andv 'doubled upon itself, said rear leaf being formed with a downwardly extending tab aligned with said tab and inserted between the adjacent facesof said tab for forming a cutout area at the bottom and adjacent one side of said casing, a sheet of matches disposed between said leaves and tabs and having a match striking area formed thereon in a position to be exposed through said cutout area when said matches are disposed between said leaves, apivot extended centrally through said tabs and the adjacent area of said sheet of matches for pivotally supporting said sheet, said sheet of matches having its bottom edge abutting the junction of said... doubled over tab to limit pivoting thereof, and a rounded corner formed on said sheet of matches concentrically with said pivot and on the side of said sheet opposed to the side of said casing-having said cutout area so that said sheet of matches may be pivoted to expose the matches thereof through the side of said casing opposed to the side thereof which connects with said cutout area. m
