M. F. SMITH REGEPTAGLE Filed June 8, 1943 I7? 0??? for Jan? 2757722272 Jftarney' Patented Sept. 18, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE RECEPTACLE Marie F. Smith, Berrien Center, Mich.
Application June 8, 1943, Serial No. 490,088
1 Claim.
The invention relates to receptacles and particularl to receptacles adapted to be secured to the body of a person to leave the hands free for collecting articles.
It is one of the objects of the invention to provide a receptacle when the articles may be inserted at the top and discharged at the bottom.
Another object constitutes the provision of a baflle at the top opening to prevent the discharge of the content when the receptacle is being tilted.
A still further object constitutes the provision of a receptacle made out of a single piece which can be releasably secured when folded to provide a receptacle.
With these and other important objects in view, the invention comprises the means described in the following specification, particularl pointed out in the claim forming a part thereof, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the receptacle constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1-.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2, and i Fig. 4 is a developed view of the receptacle.
Referring to the several views in the drawing, I designates a sheet of material having an irregular outline and comprising a plurality of panels II, I2, I3 and I4 substantially of the shape of trapezoids and made out of one piece.
The panel II has a free edge I5 and a folding line I6 dividing the panel II and the adjacent panel I2. The upper edge I1 of the panel II is arcuate and is a folding line between the panel II and a yoke shaped flap I8 having a semi-cir cular cut out portion I9 and formed with tabs 20 for a purpose hereinafter explained. The panel II has angular slots 2I.
The panel I3 has folding lines 22, 23 and is formed at the top with a tab 24' provided with slots 25. At the lower edge 26, which is a folding line, a-strip 21 forms an integral extension of the panel I3 and has a folding line 28. A button 29 is secured to the strip 21. The panel I4 is formed at its free edge with integral hook members 30. The panel I3 has a pair of slots 3| near the top and a pair of slots 32 near the bottom. The panel II has a button 33 secured thereto. A string or cord 34 is threaded through the slots and similarly a string 35 is threaded through the slots 32,
In assembling the receptacle the panels are bent along the folding lines I6, 22 and 23 and the hooks are inserted in the angular slots 2I. The flap I8 is bent on the line I1 and the tabs 20 are inserted in the slots 3!. Thereupon the strip is folded on the line 28 and a string 36 on the button 29 is secured to the button 33.
In use the string 34 is tied around the neck of the person using the receptacle and the string 35 is tied around the waist. The cut-away portion I9 of the flap I8 permits articles to be inserted in the top and upon releasing the'strip 21 by opening the string 36 the content of the receptacle may be discharged from the bottom. Upon tilting of the receptacle such'as when a person stoops, the flap I8 acts as a bafile to prevent discharge from the top.
The embodiment of the invention disclosed in the drawing is merely shown by way of example and not as a limitation.
Numerous changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I, therefore, do not limit myself to the details of construction and arrangement of parts as shown but wish to include all modifications and revisions constituting departures within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A receptacle comprising a one-piece sheet of material composed of a plurality of integral panels of substantially trapezoidal form, said material being folded to form the receptacle having an opening at the top, means integral with said sheet for releasably securing the sheet in folded condition, a single baffle integral with one of said panels for restricting said opening to prevent discharge from the top upon tilting of said receptacle, and means integral with said sheet for providing a releasable bottom normally secured to the front panel, said baflle extending the entire width of the front panel and having a cut out portion for filling the receptacle.
