IMPROVEMENT IN SPURS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 218.705, dated August 19, 1879 application filed To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST BUERMANN, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spurs, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a top view of a spur to which my improvement has been applied, partly in section, to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the salne, taken through the line a; as, Fig. 1.

The object of this invention is to provide the heel-bands of spurs with an elastic covering, so that it will not chafe or wear the boots, and which at the same time shall be neat in appearance.
The invention consists in spurs in which the heel-band is provided with an elastic or yielding covering of rubber or gutta-percha, as hereinafter fully described.

The heel-band A is covered with rubber or gutta-percha, D, which may be molded upon the said heel-band, or made in the form of a tube and drawn upon In the latter case the covering D must be made in two parts, meeting at the heel B. The covering D may be made plain, or it may be ribbed or beaded, or other- Wise ornamented to any desired extent.
Having thus fully described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In an improved spur, the metallic band A, provided with the elastic tube or cover D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
