V (No Model.)
SPUR. I No. 272,027. Patented Feb. 13.12883.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE,
0 AUGUST BUERDIANN, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
SPUR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 272,027, dated February 13, 1883.
' Application filed April 6, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST BUERMANN, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spurs, of which the following is a specification. I
My invention relates to an improvement in spurs, consisting in constructing them with a lining or guard inside of the heel-band, of rubber, gutta-percha, leather, or other suitable elastic or flexible material, substantially in the manner hereinafter set forth.
This is designed as an improvement on my former patent, No. 218,705, of August 19, 1879, wherein the band is made with an elastic tube or cover.
Figure l is a plan. tion.
In my construction 1 make a lining or guard, A, of rubber, 850., which is secured to the in- Fig. 2 is a side eleva- "side of the heel-band B by some suitable device. In the drawings, the guard is shown united with the band by rivets O; or, in place of rivets passingthrough the band, there may be straps, with the ends bent at right angles, made to pass over the bands B, the ends going through the guard and riveted down on the inside; or these guards may be otherwise united to the bands, the invention not being in the method of uniting, but in the fact of the construction of spurs with these linings or guards; and this makes a very desirable improvement in spurs, by providing a wider band for the heel-piece than is usually made with metal, and in rendering the band less severe on the heel by means of this elastic or flexible lining coming in contact with the foot, and less liable to wear the boot or shoe.
I claim A spur having a metal band adapted to be attached to the foot by means of a strap across the. instep, and having an elastic lining secured to the inside of the bandits entire length, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
AUGUST BUEBMANN.
