Description

J WEHL I Collar and Cuff Fastener.
Patented July 8,1879.
NJETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT Orr-Ion,
JULIUS WEHL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lN COLLAR AND CUFF FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,437, dated July 8, 1879: application filed March 5, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, JULIUS -WEHL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar and (luff Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front view of my improved collar and cuff fastener; Fig. 2, a side view; and Fig. 3, a horizontal section of the same on line aa), Fig. 2. v
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. i
This invention relates to an improved fastener for collars, cuffs, and other articles, by which a reliable connection of the parts of the same may be obtained without the use of button-holes and the invention consists of a fastener bent of spring-steel or other metal, and with re'versely-bent spring ends, and of separate clasp-pieces, which are guided on the spring ends, and provided, respectively, with side projections or cars for taking hold of the clasps.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the spring-hook of my improved fastener, which hook is made of flat S shape, of spring-steel or other material, and with reversely-bent clamping spring ends A.
ner: The inner spring end of the doublehook is applied to the neck-band of the shirt and to one end of the collar-band, and the upper clasp-piece then forced down by pressing with the finger thereon, so that the spring end clamps tightly thenecleband and collar-band. The opposite end of the collar-band is then inserted into the lower springend, and the lower clasp forced in an upward direction by means of its'bntton. The collar is thus firmly retained and adj usted to the exact fit desired.
The fastener is applied in the same manner to form a neat and useful device for collars,
cuffs, and other articles.
v Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination, in cuff and collar fastener, of a hook having reversely-bent clamping spring ends, provided with sliding and guided Vshaped clasp-pieces, adapted to pass over the spring ends, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, in a cuff or collar fast ener, of a hook having a straight middle portion with guide-slots and reversely-bent clam ping spring ends, and provided with sliding V- sha-ped clasp-pieces, guided by connectingpinsand side lugs on the spring ends, substantially specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two witnesses this 3d day of March, 1879,.
JULIUS WEHL.
