G. H. MARVIN.
NECK WEAR FAS'TENER. I No. 332,922. Patented De0.,22, 1885..
N. PETERS, Phalo-l lhcgnpher, Washington, D. C.
I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
GEORGE H. MARVIN, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
NECK-WEAR FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,922, dated December 22, 1885.
Application filed February 24, 1885. Serial No. 157,052. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. MARVIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York. have invented a new and useful Neck- Wear Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a neck-wear fastener that is attachable and detachable at pleasure to any necktie or scarf neckband to prevent the same slipping up when adjusted to a collar, and to secure the neck-wear to the collar till wishing to change collars or neckwvear, when it can be readily detached by slipping the fastener off from the collar. It is not necessary to separate the collar and neck-wear'each time the collar is taken off. The fastener will hold them together for all ordinary handling.
When attached to neck-wear and adjusted to the collar, the fastener will slide around the collar with the neck-wear either way it is moved in the operation of tying or fastening without becoming detached from either the collar or neckwear. 1
Figure 1 is a front view of my invention made of a single piece of (preferably spring) wire. Fig. 2 is a back view. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the device in position on a soarf-neckband.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in either view.
A is a central inverted-V-shaped device to facilitate its insertion up between the collar and neckband of the shirt.
B B are outwardlyextending arms to add width to the device.
0 G are legs extending downwardly and parallel with each other.
D D are upwardly and outwardly slanting arms. They form braces to hold the device in position when attached to neck-wear and form clasps, as hereinafter set forth.
E E are arms with pointed ends extending inwardly atright angles with said legs 0 O, and with which I attach the device to neck-wear. They also with O O and D D form clasps that 'hold the device to the collar, and are adapted ient way mark on the neck-wear where the o0 angle F of the other arm E comes, then gather up the tie or neckband till the said mark shall be even with the point of said free arm E, then insert said arm at said mark, and straighten out the tie or neckband. The de- '6 5 vice will then be securely attached thereto. I then put the neckband or tie around the collar in the usual way, and insert the fastener up between the collar and neckband of the shirt till the ends of the legs and bottom of the clasps touch the edge of the collar.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The within-described, neck-wear fastener, consisting of the central inverted-V-shaped device, A, having arms B B and legs 0 O, and arms D D and E E, all substantially as described and shown, and for the purposes specified and set forth.
GEORGE H. MARVIN. Witnesses:
FRED W..SMITH, H. O. VVADSWORTH.
