WITNESSES Wm ATIORNEY MPETERS. PHUTD-UTHOGFAFHER, WASHINGTON. 01C,
UNITED STATES "PATENT OFFICE.
FRIEDRICH W. ROTTMANN, OF NEBRASKA. CITY, NEBRASKA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO B. H. NOELTING, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN ROPE-SHELF STANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,156, dated July 1', 1879; application filed April 7, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH WV. ROTT- MANN, of Nebraska City, in the county of Otoe and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Rope Shelf Stands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction'and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side view of my improved ropestand. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views, and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section, of the same.
This invention has relation to means for holding coils of rope of different sizes while being sold and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of an open stand of shelves, arranged one over another, open at the back, and provided in front with central guide-loops, as hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter a designates the common standards, which incline toward each other, so that the stand is smaller above than below. The standardsare connected on the sides by the braces b, which are provided with inwardly-turned ledges or flanges c, on which the shelves (1 rest; and where such braces are wanting-thatis, at the front and back-the standards are provided with projecting lugs 11., that are secured to the shelves by suitable screws or nails. These shelves decrease in size from the bottom to the top, the smaller coils of rope being placed uppermost.
To the under side of each shelf, except the bottom, is secured a guide-loop, e, in a central position, near its front edge, and serving for the coil on the shelf below.
The stand is open on all sides but in rear the space between the shelves is entirely open, in order for the convenient introduction of the coil.
The rope can be pulled out through the guideloops with ease, as required, in making sales; and as the coils deliver from the center they will always appear to be full until the last or outside rim is reached.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is
The rope-stand consisting of the converging standards (I, connected at the sides of the stand by braces I), having on their loweredges the horizontal supporting-ledges c, and provided in front and rear thereof with lugs n, the shelves 4, supported by said ledges c and secured to the lugs, and the guide-loops e, for the passage of the rope, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
FRIEDRICH W. ROTTMANN.
