IM PROVEM ENT IN ROPE-REELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,485, dated June 10, 1879; application filed February 17, 1879.
rope-reel embodying myinvention. Fig.2 represents an inside view of one of the flanges or heads of a spool, and Fig. 3 represents a modification of the screw-threaded axle of the spool. Like letters of reference indicate like parts. The object of my invention is to provide a rope-reel for use in retail stores, upon which may be arranged spools of difierent sizes for containing diiferent sizes of rope, and so that the rope may be unwound as desired from the respective spools; and my invention consists in the construction and combination of the several parts of the spool, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, A represents the rack, which is held in an inclined position by means of a depending brace hinged to the back side of the upper end of the rack, and connected to the lower end of the rack by means of a tiebrace, in the usual manner. 7
B B represent the spools, each of which is journaled in suitable bearings b b, attached to the front side of the side rails of, the rack, as shown in Fig. 1, and are so arranged as to allow the spools to be readily removed therefrom.
The axle or body 0 of the respective spools B is screw-threaded, or may he formed with sectional thread, as shown in Fig. 3.
The inner faces of the flanges or heads D D of the spools are made cone-shaped, and provided with a series of circular ribs or corrugations, d, concentric with axle C, so 'as to fit within the varied sized openings in the ends of coils of rope.
The heads or flanges D D are provided with a screw-threaded opening through the centers thereof, corresponding with the thread of the axle, and are adj ustably arranged upon the body or axle of the spool, so that they may be moved to or from each other, and so as to fit against the ends of a coil of rope arranged upon the spool, and hold, the rope firmly in posi screw-threaded axle O, of the adjustable heads D, provided with arms 0, and having conical inner faces provided with circular ribs or corrugations d, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
