Description

JOHN H. DRUM.
Improvement in Combined SpooLStand and Button-Boxes.
Patented May 9,1871.
UNITED STATES JGHN H. DRUM, OF
BETHEL, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED SPOOL-STANDS AND BUTTON-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 114,537. dated May 9,1871.
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. DRUM, of Bethel, Branch county, Michigan, have invented an Improved Spool-Stand and Button- BoX, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is intended for the use of hand-sewers, and has for its object to hold spools of thread of different numbers upon a revolving stand, so that any one of the spools may be readily brought within easy reach of t-he operator, each spool being subject to the action of a separate tension device, so as to keep the thread from unwinding too much, and the stand being combined with a cylindrical boX that serves to hold buttons, pins, needles, &c.
Referring to the drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section, ais a wooden rotatory disk, pivoted at its center upon the top of a standard, b, and supporting a circular row of vertical pins, c, placed far enough apart to admit of spools being inserted between them lengthwise, the spools being mounted on wires f, passed I through their central oritices, which Wires rest l at their ends in recesses out in the tops of the pins c, whence they are removable. Tensionarms d, projecting from the outside of the button-box A, bear upon the spools, and as the threads also pass through coiled wires e, secured to the disk a in front of the spools, the latter are by these devices prevented from discharging too much thread. The boX A is secured to the top of the disk a, and is concentric therewith, and has a cover, A', that ext-ends over the spools and protects them from dust.v On the beveled edge of the disk a, in front of each spool-space, are painted the gures that indicate the number of spool for that space.
I. claim as my invention- The disk a, provided with pins c and tension-coils e, and combined with wires f and tension-arms d, as described.
JOHN H. DRUM.
