UNITED STATE-s PATENT OFFICE.

IMPROVEMENT IN HAM i=.FAs'n:|\uaRs.4
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 216,155, dated J une 3, 1879; application led March 25, 1879.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ENocH GovERT, of Farmer Village, in the county of Seneca, and
, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame- Fasteuings; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
Myinvention relates to the hamefastenerfor which Letters Patent No. 140,47 5 were granted to me July l, 1873; and it consists in certain improvements thereon, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a side view of my improved barile-fastener. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
. A represents a strap, with buckle B for connecting the hames. C is the metal hook, provided with one or more holes for securing it by means of rivets a a to the strap. D is a metal loop on the strap, fastened between the ,rivetsa, or it may be cast fast to the hook for the purpose of a back loop for the hame-strap. This construction of my hame-fastening is less expensive than that described in my fon` mer patent above referred to, and the hook attachment can be applied to any ordinary llame-strap with but little expense.
All persons who have buckled up hames with an ordinary hame-strap have been annoyed more or less by the buckle ofthe hamestrap slipping over toward the opposite haine while drawing, making it very diiiicult to get the hames sufficiently tight.
.My present improvement wholly obviates' this diiiiculty, the hook holding the buckle in its proper place.
The hook saves all wear where a leather strap usually wears out first, giving the advantage of twice the wear in a strap.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the haine-strap A and buckle B, the metallic hook (l, riveted to the strap, and the metallic loop D, held between the rivets, between the strap and the hook,
.substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set myhand this 19th day of March, 1879.
ENOCH COVERT.
