The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in bath tubs and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character embodying novel means through the medium of which the body may be conveniently and thoroughly dried after bathing.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a bath tub of the aforementioned character comprising novel means for receiving and draining all water that may drip from the bather when he or she steps from the tub.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a bath tub of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efiicient and reliable in use, compact, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure l is a top plan view of an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a View in Vertical section, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Figure 4 is a view in top plan of an end portion of the tub, a portion thereof being in horizontal section and taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Figure 5 is a view in horizontal section through the front portion of the other end portion of the invention, taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a tub of suitable material which is designated generally by the reference numeral l. Projecting from the lower portion of the front 2 of the tub l is what may be referred to as a platform 3. The top of the platform 3 has formed therein a depression t the walls 5 of which are inclined. Mounted in the bottom of the depression 4 is a grate ii of suitable material which is adapted to support the bather when he emerges from the tub l.
Also formed in the platform 3 is an elongated chamber 1 with which the depression 4 communicates through the grate 6. The chamber l is provided with a grooved drain bottom 8 to which a drain pipe 9 is connected. Mounted in the lower portions-of the walls of the chamber 7 is a perforated flush pipe H] the supply line H of which passes upwardly through the front 2 of the tub I adjacent one end of said tub. A control valve i2 is provided for the water line H on the front 2 of the tub l.
Extending downwardly through the front 2 of the tub i in the other end portion of said tub is a warm air conduit l3. The conduit 13 is connected to a pair of comparatively wide, fiat nozzles M in the end portions of the platform 3 which communicate with the chamber 1 at the ends thereof. A connecting pipe i5 in the lower portion of the front 2 of the tub I connects the conduit E3 to the nozzle M in the remote end portion of the platform 3. A control valve it; on the front 2 of the tub I controls the air conduit it.
It is thought that the operation of the invention will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. The bather steps from the tub 5 directly onto the platform 3. Water that may drip from the bather passes through the grate fi into the chamber 1 from which it is drained by the pipe 9. By opening the valve ill in the conduit it warm air is discharged into the chamber I through the nozzles M at the ends of said chamber. This warm air flows upwardly through the grate =3 and dries the body of the bather standing on said grate 6. The conduit i3 may be connected to any suitable source of warm air supply. The chamber 1 may then be expeditiously and thoroughly flushed by opening the valve l2.
It is believed that the many advantages of a bath tub embodying the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:--
1. In combination, a bath tub, a platform projecting from said tub, said platform having a chamber therein open at its top, a grate mounted on the platform over the chamber, and means communicating with the chamber for discharging warm air thereinto below the grate.
2. In combination, a bathtub, a platform projecting from said tub, said platform having a chamber therein open at its top, -a grate mounted on the platform over the chamber, a perforated flush pipe for the chamber mounted in the walls thereof, a warm air conduit mounted in the platform, and nozzles connected to said conduit and communicating with the chamber between the flush pipe and the grate.
3. In combination, a bath tub, a platform projecting from the lower portion of said tub, said platform having a depression in its top, a grate mounted in the bottom of the depression, the platform further having an elongated chamber therein communicating with the depression through the grate, a perforated flush pipe for the chamber mounted in the walls thereof, a drain pipe connected to the chamber, and means for discharging warm air into the chamber.
4. In combination, a bath tub, a platform projecting from the lower portion of said tub, said platform having a depression in its top, a grate mounted in the bottom of the depression, the platform further having an elongated chamber therein communicating with the depression through the grate, a perforated flush pipe for the chamber mounted in the walls thereof, a drain pipe connected to the chamber, and means for discharging warm air into the chamber, said means including a conduit extending into the platform, and wide, substantially flat nozzles mounted in said platform and communicating with the chamber at the ends thereof between the flush pipe and the grate, said nozzles communicating with the conduit.
