Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 31111112221915.
Application tiled September is; 1914. serial in. 862,408.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM ERNns'r GRAY, a subject of the King of'Great Britis a specification.
This invention relates to wash or detergent tubs, and the primary object of the invention is the provision of a tub as specified which is supported upon vertically adjustable feet, so that the height of thetub from the floor may be regulated to suit the height of the person using the same, thereby eliminating the many undesirable features contingent with a tub which is either too low or too high for the convenience of the person using the same.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a. lever attached to the base of the tub for raising or lowering the same by leverage action, so as to decrease the amount of manual energy necessary'for raising the tub, and to provide a novel form of connection within the outlet or egress pipes of the tubs, whereby the vertical adJuStment of the tub will not interfere with the efficient connections of the pipe.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters of reference designate like or correspondingparts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved washing tub, Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the improved connection within the outlet pipe thereof, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the leverage action for vertical adjustment of the tub.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 designates the retaining body of the washing or detergent tub, which is shown in the drawing as divided into a plurality of compartments, and which has hot and cold water inlet faucets 2 and 3 respectively, sus pended in water ejecting proximity thereto, so that the water passing from the faucets will enter the various compartments of the tub 1r The hot water faucets 2 have lengths 4 of flexible conduit securedthereto for leadingthe hot water downwardly into the rear portion of thecab for preventing the steam from enveloping the person using the tub.
The tub 1 has depending rods 5 secured to its base, which rods are slidably seated in the hollow upstanding supporting posts 6 of the legs 7 of the tub. The rods 5 are provided with a plurality of serially arranged transversely extending openings 8, which openings are adapted for alifiein'ent with the openings 9 formed in the posts 6, so as to receive pins 10, for securely holding. the rods 5 in various adjusted positions within the hollow posts 6. The pins 10 are connected to the tub I by flexible meinb'ersjli,
proximity to the tub at -11 as to assure their ill times. The tub 1 has outlet openings 1-5 formed in thebase of the compartments thereof, which openings are normally closed by plugs 16, as is clearly shownin-Fig. 2 of the drawings. The egressing openings 15v have communication with the enlarged semi- I spherical end 17 of a pipe"18, which enlarged end is securely attached to b'ase 19 of the tub 1 in any suitable manner,': The pipe 18, which depends from the center-30f the enlarged semi-spherical portion 17, is slidably seated in a collar 20, which collar is adjustably seated in the upper end of the goosenecked pipe 21, which pipe provides for the carrying away of the waste water or the used water from the tub. The washer or collar 20 is supported within the pipe 21 by a transversely extending partition 22, as .is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
A bracket 25 is securely attached to the base 19 of the detergent tub 1, and it has the short or leverage end 26 of a lever 27 securely connected thereto as at 28. The lever 27 is curved downwardly intermediate its ends, and is pivotally mounted upon a pin 29, which pin is supported by supporting brackets 30. The supporting brackets 30 are securely attached to the floor. The handle 31 of the lever 27 is positioned outwardly of one end of the detergent tub 1, so that access thereto may be readily gained by persons desiring to'elevate the tub.
When it is desired to raise the tub 1 so as to accommodate the height of the person .using the same, the pin 10 is removed from the transversely extending openings 8 and 9, and the handle 31 of the lever 27 is pressed egress openings of the tub 1 and the outlet pipe 21.
In reduclng the mventionto practice, certam minor features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations, to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is 1. In a detergent tub structure, a tub body having dependlng rods secured to the base thereof, hollow supporting posts positioned beneath said tub body and slidably supporting said rods, a pin for insertion through said hollow supporting posts and said rods for holding said tub in various adjusted p0- sitions, and a lever connected to the bottom of "said tub and extending beyond the end thereof for leverage movement for raising or lowering said tub into various elevated positions.
2. In a detergent tub structure, a tub body, ad ustable supporting legs for said tub body, a lever having one end thereof loosely connected to the base of said tub body, said lever being curved downwardly transversely and upwardly and extending beyond one end of said tub body, said lever being pivotally connected to a supporting structure at said transverse section for raising or lowering said tub body upon upward "WILLIAM E. GRAY. Witnesses PATRICK J. BURNS, ADELBERT WENDT.
