NON-SPLASH BATH HEAD Filed Aug. 12. 1953 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEX- United States Patent NON -SPLASH BATH HEAD Leland P. Marsh, Sierra Madre, Calif. Application August 12, 1953, Serial No. 373,769
2 Claims. (Cl. 4-157) This invention relates to bathing apparatus and more especially to new and useful improvements in a bath shower head.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive bath spray head of the character described.
Another object is to provide an improved bath spray head which operates without the splash action characteristic of the usual shower heads.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class mentioned which is of simple, durable construction, dependable in use and efiicient in action and which can be manufactured and sold at reasonable cost.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a non-splash bath head which can be made attractively of recently developed materials such as a plastic which is not subject to corrosion and which will have long life.
Other objects and advantages will appear and be brought out more fully in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a top view partly in central section of the same.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring more panticularly to the drawing, numeral designates generally the bath spray head of this invention comprising a body member 11, generally ringshaped, however in the embodiment shown is a split ring having ends 12 and a central portion 13. Body 11 is hollow except for central portion 13 forming an annular spray chamber 14. The lower portion of body 11 is formed with a pair of upturned annular bosses 15 which are spaced apart, forming a spray channel 16.
An arcuately shaped pipe 17 is suitably positioned in splash chamber 14 and extends substantially the length thereof, and is disposed in spaced relation above discharge channel 16. A plurality of small orifices 18 are formed in the upside of pipe 17 throughout its length to provide jet orifices for the discharge of water upwardly into splash chamber 14. A T-fitting 19 is suitably connected to the central portion of pipe 17 and may be cast in central portion 13 of body 11 when formed. A water supply pipe 20 is suitably connected to T-fitting 19 for supplying the bath water to the spray head at selected suitable pressure and temperature from any conventional source.
The operation of the invention should be apparent from the foregoing description The spray head 10 is preferably disposed on the shoulders of the user, the opening formed between ends 12 permitting the entrance of the neck of the user, however it will be apparent that the body 11 may be of such diameter as to permit it to be passed downwardly around the head of the user. Upon the application of water pressure in pipe sections 18 from supply pipe 20 the water will be projected through apertures 18 upwardly against the interior tubular wall of splash chamber 14, and thence downwardly through annular channel 16 in the form of a fine spray, and without the undesirable action of the usual shower head which has an annoying splashing action.
It will be understood that the foregoing description is illustrative rather than restrictive of the invention, and that changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the sub-joined claims.
Having described my invention what I claim is:
l. A non-splash bath head as described for direct application to the human body, comprising in combination a hollow ring-shaped body having a narrow slot in the bottom wall portion thereof substantially concentric to the axis of the ring, a water pipe in said body disposed opposite said slot and having a plurality of discharge ports directed generally upwardly toward the wall of said body and means to supply water under pressure to said pipe whereby the water is discharged through said slot as a fine spray of tubular form.
2. A non-splash ba-th head as described for direct application to the human body, comprising in combination a hollow ring-shaped body having a narrow slot in the bottom wall portion thereof substantially concentric to the axis of the ring, a water pipe in said body disposed opposite said slot in spaced relation to the body wall and having a plurality of small discharge orifices directed generally upwardly toward the wall of said body and means to supply water under pressure to said pipe whereby the water is discharged through said slot as a fine spray of tubular form, said body being formed with flanges adjacent said slot forming drip channels.
