FRANK DEMLNG AND PETER BAGHER, OF ALLEGHENY, ASSIGNORS TO YVILLIAM SUNDERMAN, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT l N BOTTLE-STOPPER AND STOPPER-FASTENER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,926, dated December 17, 1878; application filed October 31, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK DEMING and PETER BACHER, of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
Our invention relates to an improvement in bottle-stoppers, and it consists in attaching, by means of a screw, to the top of the stopper, a metal plate provided with expanding lugs for the reception and retention of a lever, the end of the shorter arm of which lever is slotted to hold the bail, as will be fully described hereinafter.
The accompanying drawings represent our invention.
B represents a stopper made of any suitable material. The stopper has a shoulder, to, extending over the mouth of the bottle when the smaller part, b, is pressed into it. On top of the stopper is the metal plate 0, held in place by a screw, (Z, the screw projecting from the under side of the plate and serving to fasten it securely to the stopper. On top of the plate 0 are lugs c, expanding at their upper ends, and provided with points or pins f opposite to each other at their insides, and placed in such a manner as to serve as pivots for the rectangular lever l), which is to be placed between them. hen the pins f are inserted in the holes in the sides of the lever, the lugs are drawn together to assume a perpendicular position, whereby the lever becomes confined and pivoted. The shorter arm of the lever D has an open slot, g, at its end for the reception of a bail, which slot may be compressed to form a ring, in which the bail moves. The longer arm of the lever is slightly bent, and serves to fasten the stopper or to release it by pressing it down or raising it up.
Having thus described our invention, we claim- 1. The metal plate 0, fastened to the stopper by the screw d, having on top expanding lugs c, with pins or points at their insides, substantially as shown and described.
2. The rectangular lever D, with an open slot in the end of its shorter arm, in combination with the lugs c and plate 0, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 25th day of October, 1875.
FRANK DEMING.
