, acitizen of the United States of America, re-
siding at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closures for Receptacles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in closures for receptacles, and more particularlyl for bottles.
The invention has for its object the provision of positive and reliable means for effecting a perfect closure of a receptacle, such as a bottle or jar, and in this connection I have devised a closure consisting of a cap and novel means for retainingthe cap upon the opening of a bottle or jar. To this end Iprovide the neck of a bottle or jar with a cam-lock which is actuated to retain a cap upon the opening of the bottle or jar.4
The construction entering into my invention will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and, referring to the drawings accompanying this application, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of' a bottle equipped with my improved closure. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a portion of the neck of a bottle equipped with the closure, the same being illustrated upon a smaller scale than that of Fig. '1. Fig. `3 is a frontelevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective View of a portion of the cam-lock. v
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated the upper end of the neck 1 of a bottle, as an ordinary beverage bottle, which' is slightly enlarged, as at 2, to form the neck of -a bottle; also to provide means for securing the closure to the neck of the bottle. y lMyimproved closure is formed of strong and durable pieces of wire which are bent to form a cam-lock. to form two substantially semicircular arches 7 7, a portion of each arch, as designated at 8, The ends of the piece of wire forming the substantially semicircular arches are bent upon themselves, as at 9 9, and engage the arches, as at 10 10, forming segment-shaped slots 11 11 upon coinciding sides ofthe arches 7 7. Prior to securing the yoke 5 to the neck 1 of the bottle the yoke 5 is passed through the slots 11 11 of the arches, wherebywhen the yoke has been once secured to the neck of a bottle the piece of wire forming the arches and the slots 11 11 will become a fixture of the bottle. f A particular adjunct of the yoke and its appurtenant parts resides in a cap 12, which is preferably made of metal and is adapted to fit over the top of the neck 1 of-the bottle. I preferably provide the face of the metallic cap confronting the bottle with a lining of cork 14, which serves to protect the contents of the bottle or receptacle and the metallic cap.
In Figs. 2 to 4, inclusive, I have illustrated the cap-12 as locked upon the neck of the bottle, closing the same. It will be observed that the horizontal portion 15 of the yoke 5 engages the cam-surfaces 8 8 of the arches 7 7 and firmly retains the ends 16 and 17 17 of the arches in engagement with the top of the cap 12. When it is desired to open the bottle or receptacle equipped with my improved closure, the most convenient and simple manner of accomplishing the same is illustrated in Fig. 1 of theJ drawings. It 'will be observed that the neck 1 of the bottle having been gripped it is only necessary to press upon the sides of the yoke in order to disengage the ends 16 and 17 17 of the arches 7 7 from the cap 12. As the radius represented by the yoke in vertical position is greater than the radius between the pivotal connection of the yoke and the lower ends of the slots 11 11, a slight pressure upon the yoke will quickly release the ends of the arches 7 7, thus permitting ofv IOO struction may be made without departing from the. spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination with a receptacle, of a yoke pivotally connected to said receptacle adjacent to its opening, a cap adapted to fit over the opening of said receptacle, a piece of wire carried by said yoke, said piece of wire being' bent to form two substantially semicircular arches having cam-surfaces against which said yoke is adapted to bear when the receptacle is closed, substantially as described.
