MANNEQUIN Filea Dec. 14, 1936 3 Sheets-Sheet 5 Inventor A iiorneys Patented Feb. 22, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIE 2 Claims.
The present invention appertains to new and useful improvements in mannequins such as are employed as models in show windows and elsewhere for displaying garments.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a mannequin wherein the various extremities thereof can be adjusted to afford lifelike poses when the mannequin is. dressed.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a mannequin wherein a single rigid supporting leg is provided on alignment with the axis of the body and wherein an additional pair of leg members are provided which can be placed optionally at one side or the other of the rigid leg, thus affording a perfect balance for the model when the model is assuming any at rest pose.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a mannequin which can be readily adjusted to various positions without difl'lculty and by an attendant not necessarily having skilled experience.
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:-
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the mannequin.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the lower portion of the torso.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the lower portion of the torso with a modified form of hip shell.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the upper leg sections.
Figure 6 is a. perspective view fragmentarily showing the upper portion of one of the lower leg sections.
Figure '7 is a fragmentary side elevational view showing one of the leg joints.
Figure 8 is a. fragmentary detailed sectional View showing the connection between the upper leg section and the torso.
Referring to the drawings wherein like nu.- merals designate like parts, it can be seen. that the mannequin consists of the torso 5 having the head '6 thereon and the arms 7 can be attached to the shoulder portions by suitable ball and socket connections 8, it being preferable that the lower portions of the arms be pivotally connected, to the upper sections it as at Iii.
The legs of the mannequin corlsist of the upper sections I2 and the lower sections l3, it being understood that only one or" the lower secof the human leg and these upper sections co operate with the downwardly tapering filler section [4 which has the integral depending leg extension Ma. As before stated, only one of the lower leg sections I3 is used at a time and this is used in conjunction with the fixed leg section Ma which is always in position balancing the mannequin. The filler section I4 is hollow and is provided at its upper portions, that is, at its side opposed to the leg sections l2 with key slots IS in which the headed studs IS on the upper ends of the upper leg sections l2 are disposed for connecting the leg sections. to the torso.
The form of the invention shown in Figure 3 discloses an intact hip shell form ll into which the upper ends of the upper leg sections l2 are disposed.
The lower portions of the upper leg sections 12 are provided with pockets |2a extending inwardly from the rear side thereof and being disposed on a plane obliquely disposed with respect to the longitudinal and horizontal axis of the leg sections. This pocket 12a opens through the lower end of the leg sections 12 and is traversed by a pin I8. This pin is removable and is adapted to be disposed through the opening of the lug IS on the upper end of the corresponding lower leg section l3.
A spring-pressed detent 20 is provided in one side Wall of the pocket I2a to engage the lug l9 7 and assist in the retention of the adjustment of the leg sections. The purpose in having the pocket 12a disposed in this manner and the leg sections connected in the manner stated is so that the legs are capable of movement from the rear of the body forwardly or inwardly on a converging arc.
While the hip forming shell I! is shown fixed in Figure 3, the hip forming shell Ila in Figure 4 is shown pivotally connected as at 2| to the front and rear sides of the torso so that adjustment of the shell Na in a vertical plane can be made to correspond with various positions of the leg sections.
It can be seen, that the upper leg sections l2 are both used in conjunction with the filler sections l4 and hug the filler sections I4 as suggested in Figure 1. Because of the fact that the fixed leg A is in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the body, this will afford a. balance to the mannequin which is diflioult toestablish in present day types of mannequin.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:-
1. A mannequin comprising a torso including a head, arms and leg members, one of the said leg members being fixed rigidly to the torso and the other leg member being adjustable with respect thereto, said torso being provided with a downwardly tapering filler structure forming the upper portion of the rigid leg, said adjustable leg section being composed of an upper and a lower section, said upper leg section being disposed against one side of the filler and a second upper leg section disposed; against the opposite side of the filler, said upper leg sections being detachably secured to opposite sides of said filler.
2. A mannequin comprising a torso including a head, arms and leg members, one of the said leg members being fixed rigidly to the torso and the other leg member being adjustable with respect thereto, and a rockable hip shell on the lower portion of the torso, said shell having its lower portion overlapping the upper portions of the legs.
