The present invention relates to figure toys and an object of the invention is to provide an improved mounting for the head of a figure toy by which the head will move forwardly and backwardly as the toy advances in order to simulate the movement of the head of an animal, bird or the like during walking. A further object of the invention is to provide front and rear supports for the figure toy which will have movement simulating a quadruped in walking. Still another object of the invention is to provide a construction 'in which the toy is pulled forwardly by a draft means connected to the lower portion of a pivotal front support for the body of the toy, and means is provided-for operating the body so that it swings back and forth on the front support with reference to the draft means. A further object of the invention is to provide a figure toy having draft means, in which the body moves back and forth with reference to the draft means and is supported by two supports connected together in such a manner that the supports move in opposite directions as the body moves back and forth to simulate walking. Still another object of the invention is to provide a toy having abody supported by two supports, connected together, to move in opposite directions, one of said supports. being weighted and having draft means connected thereto and provision being made for swinging the body back and forth with reference 55 to the point of draft so that thetoy simulates walking and, at the same time, the rear end of the body is adapted to swing up wardly under the inertia of the rear suports, in moving rearwardly to simulate 'cking.
To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described: the novel features being pointed out in the ap nded claims;

Referring first to the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1m 3 inclusive, 1 indicates thebody of, the toy and 2 the head. The headis supported, in this instance, on the body by two supporting links 3 and 4. The link 3 is pivoted at 5 in a recess 6 at the forward end of the body and at 7 in the recess 8 at the underside of the head. This link 3 simulates the neck of the animal and 1s grooved or pocketed in its rear surface at 9 to conceal the link 4, which is pivoted at 10 within the forward portion of the body and at 11 Within the pocket 8 of the head 2.

The links swing, in this instance, in parallel relation and, as a consequence, the head can move backward and forward relatively to the body, while always maintaining a substantially horizontal position, although movlng 1n an arc.
The body, in this instance, is arranged on two supports, a front support and a rear support. The front support embodies two links 12, pivoted on a common axis 5 which is also the axis of the swinging of the link 3. These links 12 simulate the front legs of the animal and are connected, in this instance, at their lower ends by a shaft 13 which has traction wheels 14 rigidly secured thereto to turn therewith, the shaft turning in the links 12. The rear support comprises two links 15, pivotally connectedat 16 to the body, and having their lower ends connected by a shaft 17 which turns .in the links and has wheels 18 turning there- In order that the front support may move operates through slots 23 in the body to connect with the links 12. The bar 20, which connectsthe link 19 with the rear support, is above the pivotal axis 16, whereas the bar 22 which connects the link 19 with the front supportis below the pivotal axis 5. In this way the two supports are caused to move in opposite directions. 4 p
The bar 20 is also utilized as a pivot for the link 24 arranged within the body 1 and pivotally connected at 25 to the link 4 of the rearwardly as the rear support moves forhead supporting means. It is thus apparent that the movement of the head is effected through the movement of the supporting means of the toy.
The mechanism for effecting the movement of the supports, in this instance, comprises a crank portion 26 on the shaft 13 connected by a link 27pivoted to said crank portion and to a fixed point or pivot 10. A draftmeans 28 is connected by a yoke 29 to the lower portions of the two links 12.
lVith this arrangement as the toy is pulled forwardly through the pull or draft cord, the traction wheels 14 are turned and in turnin turn the crank 26, which acting on the lin 27. whose pivot is different from the pivot 5 of the front support, causes the front support to swing back and forth, shifting the body back and forth, and this swinging motion is transmitted by the link 19 to the rear support, causing the latter to swing in the direction opposite that from which the front support swings. Motion from the rear support is transmitted through the link 24 to the links supporting the head 2. The front traction wheels are weighted as, for instance, being made of heavier material than the rear wheels. As a consequence when the toy is pulled, not only do the front legs and rear legs move in the opposite direction, but due to the inertia of the rear support, the tendcncy is to lift the body 1, with the result that the toy simulates a kicking movement, the rear legs moving off the floor and the rear endof the body elevating during the rear movement of the legs 15.
In the embodiment shown in F i 4, the body 1 simulates a bird with a head 2 supported by a front neck link 3 pivoted at 5 to the body and at 7 a to the head. This neck link is grooved like the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 to house or conceal a link 4 pivoted at 10 to the body and at 11 to the head. An extension 4 on the link 4 connects with a link 27 with a crank 26* on the shaft 13 on the front support 14. It is apparent that in this embodiment the turning or movement of the front supporting wheels 14* transmits through the link 27 motion to the link 4 and consequently to the head, so that as the body moves forward, the head 2* moves back and forth.
From the foregoing it will be seen that there has been provided in figure toys, a means for mounting a. head so that it moves .back and forth while remaining in a subas the front support is pulled forwardly, the body moves back and forth and these supports move in opposite directions to simulate walking. A novel means is also employed for causing the rear supports-to simulate a kicking movement on their rearward movements, the rear end of the body at the same time being elevated at its rear end,
That I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A figure toy comprising a movable body, a head, two supporting links for the head, each pivoted to the head and to the body, one in. rear of the other, one of said supporting links serving as the neck of the figure, and means for moving said links to effect the movement of the head relatively to the body, said means being controlled by the movement of the body.
2. A figure toy comprising a body, a head, two supporting links forv the head, each pivoted to the head and to the body, one in rear of the other, one of said links having a recess in which the other is concealed.
3. A figure toy comprising a movable body, a head, two sup-porting links for the head, each pivoted to the head and to the body, one in rear of the other, one of said supporting links acting as the neck of the figure, and traction operated means connected with the links for moving the head and body relatively.
4. A figure toy comprising a'body, two pivoted supports for the body, meansconnecting said supports to cause them to move in opposite directions, traction means on one of the supports and eccentric connec:
tion between the traction means and the body to effect the .movement of the supports. v
5. A figure toy comprising a body, two pivoted supports for the body, means connecting the supports to cause them to move in opposite directions, traction means movable on one of the supports and eccentric connection between the traction means and the body to one-side of the support on which it is mounted for effecting the movement of both supports.
6. A figure toy comprising a body, two pivoted supports for the body, a link pivotally connecting said supports to cause them to move in opposite directions, traction means mounted on one of said supports an eccentric connection between the traction means and'the body at one side of the pivot of the support to effect the movement between such su port and the. body, and through the lin between the supports.
7. A figure toy comprising a body, two pivoted supports for the body, means cnnesting the supports to cause them to move in opposite directions, means for weighting the forward support for causing the front end of the body to be heavier than the rear portion of the front support, traction means and an eccentric connection between the traction means and the body to cause a movement between said forward support and the body and consequently a movement of the rear support, so that the inertia of the rear support will effect the movement of the rear. end of the body upwardly as the rear support moves rearwardly.
8. A figure toy comprising a body, two
pivotally mounted supports,- means connecting the supports to cause them to move Y in opposite directions, traction means on the forward support and an eccentric con neotion between the traction means and the body to one side of the pivot of the forward support to effect the relative movement between the body and the forward support, and draft means connected to the lower portion of the forward support, so that as the forward support is pulled forwardly, the traction means will effect a relative movement between the forward support and the body and the rear support will be operated through its connection with the forward support.
9. A figure toy comprising- 'a body, front and rear supports pivoted to the body, means connecting the front and .rear supports to cause them to move in opposite directions, draft means connected to the lowerportion of the front support, traction means for the toy, and an eccentric connection between the body and the traction means for effecting the relative movementbetween the supports and the body.
10. A figuretoy comprising a body, front and rear supports pivoted to the body, means connecting the front and rear sup ports to cause them to move in opposite directions, draft means connected to the lower portion of the front support, traction means for the toy and an eccentric connection between the body and the traction means for efiecting the relative 'movement between the supports and the body, the front support being weighted so that as the movement between the supports for the body takes place, the inertia of the rear support will tend to swing upwardly the rear end of the body.
11. A figure toy comprising a body, a support pivoted to the body, a traction wheel mounted to turn on the support below the pivot of the body and parallel wlth the axis of swinging of the body, said support being mounted to swing about the axis of turning of the traction wheel, draft means flexibly connected to the lower part of the support adjacent the pivotal connection of the latter with the traction wheel, and a link pivotally connected to the body in rear of the pivotal connection of the support, said link being eccentrically connected 1 head on separate axes out of line with each on one of the-supports and aneccentric connection between the traction-means and the body to one side of the pivot of the supporton the body for moving said supports.
13. A figure toy comprising a body, two pivotally mounted supports, means for connecting the supports to cause them to move in opposite directions, a link pivoted to the body in rear of the pivot of the front sup-- port, and a traction wheel mounted to turn on the front support and having eccentric connection with said link for effecting the longitudinal movement of the latter relatively to the front support.
14.- A figure toy comprising a body, apair of supports pivotally mounted on the body one in front of the other, the forward support having a traction wheel mounted to turn thereon, means connecting the supports to cause them to move in opposite direcbody in rear of the forward support and having an eccentricconnection with the wheel in rear of the forward support.
15. A figure toy comprising a body, a pair of supports pivotally mounted on the body, one in front of the other, .the forward support having a traction wheel mounted to turn thereon, a link connecting the supports and pivoted above the axis of one and. below the axis of the other so as to cause them to move in opposite directions, and a link pivoted to the body in rear of the front support and having an eccentric connection with the traction wheel of the front support.
