lie it known that l, CILiuLns P. La Barr, a citizen of the United States. residing at Santa Monica, in the county oi? Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in imusement Devices, oil which the followingis a specification.

This invention relates to an amusement :upparatus and particularly-to stage manilzins, and has for its object toprovide a novel, amusing, attractive and durable amusement devicein which there is commeans for manipulating the limbs thereof and further to provide a stage or other platform about which the nianikins can be manipulated at will as to perform desired actions at the will of the operator. The in vention consists of the".eonstruetion the ombination and in details and arrangements of the parts an embodiment of which invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described and claimed herein.

While the invention is shown with small figures and M, in Fig. 1, representing a. woman and a man movable about an elevated table, stand or platform S, it is understood that the invention is capable of being adapted to amusement devices of any size and for the employmentott manikins of any predetermined representative form and configuration. The stage or stand S is formed of a supporting table-like member 2 that is provided with a suitable system of vertical heri's 3 of which there might be one for each figure as W and M, or oi" which there might be any interconnected series, these herts forming paths for movement of the figures over the stand or stage surface S ac cording to the desired plan of the play, so that the figures can be moved in an upright or inclined position toward, or away from each other, or together side by side, or in any other mode of operation.

The figures are each provided with a sub stantial downwardly extending rod i having adjacent the feet of the figure or manilzin a transversely formed loop or bight 5 to facilitate in guiding the figure in a plane over the surface of the stage S; the operating'rod -l extending downwardly through the kert portion 3 and having a right angular extending part 4? spaced sufficiently below the part 5 to facilitate the ready movement of the rod and its figure through amt over the kert The outer end of the arm part i of the rod may be provided with a downwawlly extending handle 6 .and at the connection of the handle 6 with the part l there may be formed a loop or bend T bent in n planeapproximately parallel to the bottom surface of the or platiorm S so that the figure will stand in erect position after has once been located as desired.

The figures may have their several limbs imzluding the arms 8 and the legs 9 jointed for movement with relation to the body portion 10 and obviously the head 11 of a figure may also be mounted for relative movement it so desired, and in Figs. 2 and 3 the arms 8 are connected to a rocker rod 8 extending through the shoulders of the figure and having a c 'ank arm 11 to which may be connected an operating cord 12 extended down along the figure and through the bight or eye 5 if desired so as to he guided along concurrently with the shifting movement of the operating rod 4. From this it will be seen that by pulling on the portion of the operating cord 12 that ex tends below the stage or platform S the arms of the figure can be raised from a vided with elbow oints or hinges 8? permitting the forearms 8 to be swung inwardly across the chest of the figure and the I bination with a table provided in its top with a slot, of a manikin adapted to be pothumbs on the hands are yieldingly mounted on a pivot 16 being swung toan open position by any suitable device as an elastic or spring member 17 connected to an extended portion 15 of the thumb.

Each of the arms 8 in Fig. '7 is mounted on a separate rock shaft 8 arranged in suitable bearmgs 18 and the operatmgcord 12 of each of the arms extends down through the figure so that each arm can be raised from: thevertioal to a horizontal position. To swing the'forearms 8 inwardly each forearm has attached to'it at 19 at a point beyond its hinge or pivot 8 an operating body and beyond the same to be engaged for the operation ofthe forearm.

While there is an individual line or cord 20 for each forearm section, these arms may be concurrently operated to swing inwardly together by means of a common cord 23 passing upwardly through the body and provided with divergent parts 24, Fig. 7, each of which is connected separately to its respective forearmas at 19. Obviously the branches 2% of the arm working cord 23 will be connected to the individual operating cords 20 so that by pulling an individual part 20 only one arm would be manipulated.

In the manikin shown in Figs. 1, 5 and 6 the handling rod 12 is provided with swiveling supporting parts 5 to rest uponthe upper surface of the stand or stage S, and the outer end of the arm portion 4a is also provided with swiveling supporting parts 7, and as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5' the parting from the spirit of the invention as claimed. 7

i What is claimed is:

1. In an amusement device the comsition'ed on said table top, said manikin being provided with movableparts, a substantially rigid member depending from said manikin and adapted to extend through the slot so that saidmanikin can be moved over the table along said slot from a point beneath 'the table top,projections on said manipulating member whereby thesame and the manikin may be maintained in a vertical position, and flexible-connections extending from the movable parts of the manikin downwardly through the slot in the table. 7 a c 2. An amusement device comprising a manikin with a downwardly extending ma nipulating device shiftable in an upright position through a kerf in a stage or platform member above which the manikin is exposed and means for operating movable parts of the manikin from a position relatively remote thereto; said manipulating means consisting of a rod rigidly connected to themanikin and having transversely arranged swivel supporting parts arranged adjacent the feet ofthe manikin so that the latter. can be tilted with respect to the said platformor stage, over which it is operative.
