  • My invention refers to adjustable dolls made of sheet metal or some other suitable flat material and more especially to dolls which are intended to imitate different positions of exercise and rifle drill in a fairly natural manner. According to the present invention, a great variety of such positions is achieved owing to the rifle forming a separate detachable part of the doll and being provided with abreech-lock button undercut in a rectangular form and designed so as to form a link-pin. To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, JoHANNEs Go'r'rrrrnr Drn'rRroH, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Berlin-Tempelhof, Germany,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Soldiers (for which I have filed applications in Germany, August 17,1915, and April 15, 1919; Sweden, June 28,1920; Norway, July 9, 1920; Holland,
July 9, 1920; France, July 30, 1920; Poland,
July 3, 1920; England, July 10, 1920; Austria, July 22, 1920; Switzerland, July 10, 1920; Belgium, July 10, 1920; Spain, August 24, 1920; Czecho-Slovakia, July 3,
1920), of which the following is a specification.
My invention refers to adjustable dolls made of sheet metal or some other suitable flat material and more especially to dolls which are intended to imitate different positions of exercise and rifle drill in a fairly natural manner. According to the present invention, a great variety of such positions is achieved owing to the rifle forming a separate detachable part of the doll and being provided with abreech-lock button undercut in a rectangular form and designed so as to form a link-pin. By means of the said breech-lock button it is possible to link the rifle to any desired point of a flat member of the doll in a detachable.

Thus the breech-lock button of the toy corresponds, although on an exaggerated scale, to the same part of a real rifle and at the same time forms the means of connection between the doll and the exchangeable toy rifle. Referring to the drawings, the doll consists-of a trunk or body portion 1 which, through its contour and lines impressed upon it on both sides and through being providedwith or without color-print, simultaneously represents the neck, the head and the helmet. It furthermore consists of the arms 2 and 3, of shoulder plates 4, 5 inserted between the trunk and each arm, of the thighs 6, the lower legs and feet 7, of a bar 8 linked to the one foot and provided for the purpose of standing the doll, and finallyof the rifle 9 designed as a separate and detachable flat part.
In the first modification the breech-lock button 10 consistsof a pin with a mushroom head which projects like a .pin and is rivetedthrough therifle (Figs. 13 and 14). The plane base of the button head of the pin intersects with the longitudinal axis of the, pin at right angles and the length of the pin coincides with the gauge of material of the flat member (arm) of the doll. On the arm 2 a recess 11 is provided between the raised-thumb 12 and the sleeve and a second one 11 between the raised thumb and the fingers closed together. The shaft of the breech-lock button is inserted in one of these recesses in such a manner that the rim of the recessserves as the link bearing and the shaft of the breech-lock button as the link journal, whilst the button head undercut rectangularly forms the outer abutment for the arm. After this link con nection has been established, the right hand can, for instance,-be raised, say, up to the tip of the helmet so that the lower edge of the butt of the rifle canbe turned past the rounded part of the shoulder plate 5 which is prevented from rotating and has a heartshaped contour (Fig. 5, dotted lines).
After rotating the arm 3together with the rifle downwards, the lower edge 9 of the butt of the rifle supports itself against the straight part 5 of the shoulder plate which points forward, the rifle thus fixing itself firmly between the plate 5 and the breechlock buttonltl (Fig. 5, full lines). In this case a joint is for ed between 5* and 9 as in the ease of a ya. it, so that even with pressure on the mouth of the rifle the rifle is prevented from being turned downwards.
If a diflerent rifle with a shorter butt be employed, the edge of the butt of the rifle may also be propped against the breast edge 1" of the trunk (Fig. 7). Also in this case the butt of the rifle can be turned past the top of the chest, when the arm is raised (F 8).
Providing two recesses 11 and 11, open on top, in front of the thumb 12 and behind it. allows of choosing between several centers of rotation for the rifle. The rifle may also be linked to any other portion of the arm and may be inserted, for instance, in the rounding 16 forming the transition between the upper and the lower arm 6), the position of the rifle permanently remaining on edge owing to the length of the button shaft being equal to the thickness of the member (Fig. 13).
In order to bring therifle into connection with two members, i. c. with the two arms, one member. for instance, the left hand, is provided with a button 18 projecting towards the center of the body and undercut rectangularlvin the same manner as on the rise, the le' ,th of the button shaft corresponding to the gauge of material of the sheet rifle 9. The rifle can now be fastened to the right hand by means of its button 10 and can be made to'support itself on the button 13 provided on the left hand (Figs. lfi'and 12), or, on the other hand, the rifle may also be fastened by means of this button 13 alone, as, for instance, for shoulderingit (Fig. 9).
Instead of a button 13, a bracket support 15 can be provided in the left hand.
For slinging the rifle, recesses 16 in which the breech-lock button can be inserted, are likewise provided on the trunk designed with. the same gauge of material as the flat armanember, the said recesses for instance bei a arranged on the level of the haversacl and in the vicinity of the knapsack (Fig. 11).
" In the second modification (Figs. 15 to the breech-lock button is formed by simply bending off a tongue on the rifle, this tongue consisting of a strip 17 and a headshaped enlargement 18 or 19 arranged at right angles to it (Figs. 17 and 18). At its base the strip 17 is also deflected right angles in regard to the sheet part represent ing the rifle, andthe length of the strip corresponds to the gauge of material of the member 2 or 3 forming the arm. In consequence of the deflection of the strip originally disposedin the plane of the sheet rifle, the breech-lock button projects up to or even beyond the edge of the rifle corresponding to the real original. In the same manner the button of the left hand is formed by twice bending off the fingers at right angles, the stamping representing the hand with stretcl ed fingers being deflected in two lines l9-l9 and 2O2O which run parallel with one another at a distance equal to the gauge of material of the rifle and obliquely in regard to the row of knuckles (Figs. 26 and 2? Owing to the oblique deflection the tips of the fingers form asupportmg groove (Figs. 23 and 2%) with the thumb part of the hand, which said groove supi the rifle placed against the shoulder in the case of the living model.
Fig. 21 shows another manner of utilizing the bending of the hand and the breechlocl: button provided on the edge of the rifle, at the same time. If a similar deflection is also provided in the right hand, the rifle can be hung on the right arm stretched downwards obliquely, by means of its breech-lock button, the deflection of the right hand securing the rifle against slipping off forwards, whilst the deflection of the left hand can be laid around the barrel of the rifle.
