The main object of this invention is to provide an amusing and interesting toy for children of tender years, in the form of an oscillating body which is pivotally mounted on a bench and rocks to and fro when actuated.

Another object of this invention is to provide an oscillating toy which consists of a painted figure supported on two points and is perfectly balanced so that when actuated the figure rocks to and fro for an appreciable length of time and thereby causes merriment to children.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a toy having an oscillating figure which is balanced on two points and is provided with a tail on which a weight is mounted, the balance weight being inovably secured in place so that its position may be varied to change the angle of balance of the figure.

The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.

Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a longitudinal side elevational view of the toy showing the same in a position of rest.

Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the same.

Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the balance weight.

Figure 4 is an end elevational view of Figure 3.

Referring in detail to the drawing. the numeral indicates the figure of some animated object such as an animal or a human. In the illustration of Figure 1 a man is shown smoking a pipe with his legs 11 extended. to give his body free movement to swing. Two sharp prongs 12 and 13 appear to serve as the coat tails of the figure but in reality are the points on which the entire figure oscillates to and fro from one side to the other. The two prongs 12 and 13 on which the entire figure is mounted rests on a bench 14 which is supported on legs 15 so that space exists between the bench seat and the supporting surface. tension 16 which projects downwardly beneath the figure and its extreme tip is normally located under the bench 14. One of the curved edges is provided with teeth 17 which extend from the end of the extension to the opposite end of the latter where said extension merges with the body.

Said extension 16 is adapted to serve as a support for a weight 18 which consists of an inverted U-shaped member provided with an intermediate slit in which the extension registers. One of the sides bounding said slit has teeth 22 which are engaged on the teeth formed on the extension 16. The slit :21 is of such dimension as to readily receive the extension loosely therein. The balance weight 18 has a pair of yokes 19 and 20 projecting sidewise therefrom one of which serves as a mounting for one end of a spring 23, which latter is secured in place by a rivet.

This spring finger is curved longitudinally and engages the smooth edge of the exten sion 18 intermediate the length of said spring. The spring is adapted to urge the teeth on the balance weight into contact with the teeth on the extension 16.

The toy is adapted to oscillate to and fro on the bench 14 in a manner which will appear obvious from the drawing. The balance weight 18 is capable of having itself adjusted to various positions along the length of the extension 16 in order to change the angle with which the figure will normally remain at rest on the bench 14. To adjust this weight to a diiferent position pressure is brought to bear on the side of the weight on which the spring is located thereby lifting the teeth 22 on the weight out of engagement with the teeth 17 on the exten sion 16 of the figure 10. The balance weight is then slid longitudinally along the extension to another and different position after which pressure on the side of the weight is then released.

It is to be noted that certain changes in form and construction may be made without departing from the spirit and scope or the invention.

A toy comprising a support, an oscillating ill) figure seated on said support above the same, a rearwardly curved extension extending downwardly from said figure to a position beneath said support, said extension having 5 teeth on one side, a U-shaped weight supported on said extension and having teeth formed therein, yokes integral with said weight, and a finger on said weight secured. to said yokes, said finger adapted to engage the edge of the extension to urge theteeth -.0 j of the weight into engagement with the teeth of the extension.
