Description

Jan. 1 1925.
C. W. BOLICK TOY Filed June 2 1924 INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Jan. 13, 1925.
NITED STATE CHARLES WALTER IBOLICK, OF DRAPER, NORTH CAROLINA.
TOY.
Application filed June 2,
movement of the toy to impart a side to side rocking motion to a figure and simulate the motion of a person moving from one foot to the other in a sidewise direction.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a toy as above set forth which is cheap and simple in construction and amusing and attractive in appearance.
lVith the above and, other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a toy constr-ucted in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a rear view of the same.
Figure 3 is an edge view.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a block of suitable dimensions upon which there is mounted a pair of spaced supporting wheels 11, while pivotally and eccentrically secured to these wheels as shown at 12 are the lower ends of legs 13. The opposite or upper ends of these legs are loosely and pivotally secured as at 14: to the body 15 of a figure, the latter somewhat resembling a human figure. The shape and character however of this figure may vary.
Rising from the block 10 is a support 16, herein shown as a wire or rod, the lower end of which is rigid with the block 10, while adjacent this block the support is offset as at 17. The support passes through an eye 18 which is pivotally secured to the figure and which extends from the rear thereof. Arms 19 are loosely and pivotally secured to the figure. The representation of a face may be upon one or both sides of the head of the figure.
Pivotally secured to the block as shown at 20 is one end of a handle 21.
1924. Serial No. 717,383.
By means of the handle 21 the figure may be moved over the surface of the floor or ground, rotation of the wheels 11 imparting a side to side rocking movement to the figure, depending upon the relative positions of the pivotal connections between the legs and wheels 11, the sliding pivotal connection between the support and the body of the figure providing a movable fulcrum. lVhen in motion, the movement of the figure is substantially that of a person moving sideways from one foot to the other, as well as that of a person moving directly upward and downward, the movement depending upon the relative positions of the connections between the figure and wheels as previously stated.
The toy may be attractively colored and may be made in various designs and sizes.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. A toy comprising a block, spaced wheels rotatably secured thereto, a figure including a body and legs pivotally connected to the body and eccentrically secured to the wheels, a support extending from the block, a sliding pivotal connection between the support and figure and a handle extending from the block.
2. A toy comprising a block spaced wheels rotatably secured thereto, a figure including a body and le s pivotally connected to the body and eccentrically secured to the wheels, a rod extending from and hav ing one end rigid with the block, an eye pivotally secured to the body and slidingly receiving the rod and a handle extending from the block.
3. A toy comprising a block, spaced wheels rotatably mounted upon one side of the block, a. figure including a. body and legs pivotally connected to the body, a support extending from the block, means for slidingly and pivotally connecting the support to the body between the legs, an eccentric pivotal connection between the legs and wheels and a handle extending from the block.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
CHARLES WALTER BOLIGK.
