fTheobject of this invention is to provide a doll of simple construction and of the type known as a walking doll, which, when moved across the floorwith its feet lightly touching the floor will assume the toddling stride of an infant. This object `is attained by properly positioning the point of juncture of the limbs with respect to the bodyand in the method of freely pivoting the legs on the body asv will be hereinafter set forth. l

A further object `of this invention is to provide a method of hinging or pivot-ing the limb of a doll to permit a universal movement thereof, enablingthe saine to withstand hard usage andcnabling a new limb to be tted readily without necessitating the removal of other parts of the body to obtain access to the hinging parts of the limb. l

With these objects and other objects which may hereinafter appear in view, I have devised the particular arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof in which- `Figure l is a front elevation of a doll made in accordance with my invention.

Figure 2 is a front elevation showing the hinge joint for one of the legs.

Figure 3 is aside elevation partly in section.

In the preferred kembodiment of my invention as disclosed in the accompanying drawing, l` indicates the body of the doll which generally consists of a cloth casing"` stuffed with any suitable stuffing material 2. At 3 are the legs of the doll which are provided at their upper ends with a number of links l in thenature of loops secured in place by stitches 5 or other suitable securing means. l have shown two independent pockets 8 but it will be understood that a single elongated pocket may be usedy instead or two or the formation of the pocket may be entirely the leg supporting member 7 may be secured directly to the body in any way, or if desired the loops or links 4f may be secured directly to the body l being necessarily secured thereto in such a way as to permit an extremely free pivotal movement ,ofthe legs with respect to the body. y y f The pockets 8 are preferably closed at one end to hold the leg supporting bar or rod 7 securely in place. The manner in which the loops t are secured in position permit the legs to have a slight' movement laterally of the longitudinal axis of the dolls body the walking effect of the doll. It will be found that if the doll Vis held with the feet lightly touchingthe floor and is moved across the floor and during such movement, if the body is given a `slight sideways movement, the free pivotal movement of the legs causes one leg to swing forward and thence rearwardly while the other leg moves forward, thus lgiving the doll a natural and lifelike walking movement. This movement is aided by the positioning of Jche legs atthe forward edne of the body as well as by free pivotal arrangement of theleg joint.

At 11 are shown the two arms of the doll which preferably have a universal movement.

From the foregoing, it will be obvious that many modifications of my invention may be made, all of which may produce similar results. without departing from the spirit of my invention.

l. A doll having a body portion.y a rod secured at the lower end thereof, links on said rod and limbs attached to said links.

2. A. doll having a body portion, a rod secured at the lower end thereof, limbs having loops secured to them, said loops extending` over the rod and permittingr the limbs to have a slight amount of movement laterally to the longitudinal axis of the body.

3. A doll having a body portion, a pocket on the lower end thereof at the front of the body, a rod in said pocket, legs, and links connecting' said legs with said rod.

il. A doll having a body portion, an apertured pocket on the lower end thereof, a rod contained in said pocket, a pair of legs, and

links on said legs extending` through the apertures in the pocket and connected to the rod.

5. A doll having a body portion, nn apertured pocket secured on the lower end olt said body portion, a limb-supporting ineinber within said pocket and a limb Connected tosaid supporting member and havinga slight pivotal movement laterally of the axis of the body portion.
