Ornithopters; propelling.-A fixed supporting- plane a, which may be pentagonal, is arranged above a pair of quadrangular concavo-convex flapping wings b, which are operated by handles d, have a dipping-motion of their forward edges during the down-stroke, and are turned by the feet into a position of reduced resistance on the up-stroke. The frame m carrying the foot-plate r is hinged to the frame e carrying the seat, and the wings b are hinged to the frame m by a universal joint at one part, and a link k between two universal joints at another part, so that the forward edges dip when the wings are pulled down by the handles d.
