Description
HAIR DRESS ING TOOL Fild May 12, 1936 Enventor Oswr C M/iama Gttorneg Patented Jan. 18, 1938 UNITED ,STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,105,571 HAIR DRESSING 'rooL Oscar C. Williams-San Diego, Calif.
Application May 12, 1936, Serial No. 79,239
7 Claims.
My invention relates to a hair dressing tool, more particularly adapted for curling the hair in which the hair is first parted and then combed and then curled, and the objects of my invention are:
First-To provide a tool for dressing the hair by the use of which the various operations in curling the hair are accomplished with one tool;
Second-To provide a tool of this class in which portions of the hair may be separated or parted from other portions and combed and curled and one tool, used for the various operations;
Third-To provide a tool of this class in which the various portions cooperate to facilitate the curling of the hair;
Fourth.-To provide a new and novel curling tool; I
Fifth.'To provide a new and novel comb;
Sixth.-To provide a new and novel combined comb and curling tool;
Seventh-To provide a tool of this class which is very simple and economical of construction,
, easy to operate, eflicient in its action, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination,
and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my hair dressing tool complete and ready for use; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view from the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view showing the joint between the curling member and comb member; Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view from the line 44 of Fig. 1; Figs. 5, 6 and 7 are'diagrammatic views showing the curling tool member with the hair in position thereon in varying progressive positions.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing.
The comb member I is provided with conventional teeth 2 which extend from one side thereof and it is provided with an extended handle portion 3 which extends past the teeth 2 and provides a handle portion for gripping with the hand. Secured at the back of the. comb member I is a parting prong 4 which is preferably integral therewith but if desired may be separate and piv:
otally connected. As is obvious this prong member 4 is spaced from the back of the comb by space 5 and is provided on its extended end with a curved pointed portion 6 which facilitates the entering of the prong i into the hair for parting or separating the same. Then by turning'the handle, the parting hair may be drawn between the teeth of the comb and the hair drawn through the teeth for combing out that portion that has been parted from the rest of the hair by the prong 4. The handle 3 is preferably made in two parts providing a hollow extending handle portion I which fits tightly on a reduced portion 3a divide the outer end of the handle member I into three separate sections 9, l0, and II, divided by the slots 8. The handle portion I may be of the same material as the comb 3 or may be of different material, but in order to get the best results should be slightly resilient and 'yieldable and of a size suitable to curl the various locks of hair around.
The operation of my hair dressing tool is as follows; The prong 4 is inserted into the hair against the scalp, the. pointed prong portion 6 entering, separating and parting the hair and providing a separate strand or look of the hair. Then this strand or lock is combed preferably by turning the handle so that the teeth pass into the strand or look of hair and the teeth drawn-through the hair to the ends after which it may be combed as often as desired. Then the end of the strand or lock is inserted in one of the slots 8 as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing and the member I turned by grasping the comb portion 3 and wrapping the hair on the member I at the slotted end as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawing, holding the strand or look of hair tight while turning. As soon as the hair is wound onto the portion 1 a suitable distance, a conventional bobble pin P is inserted with one member in one of the slots 8 and the other over the hair wound on the member I as shown in Fig. '7 of the drawing, after which the member 'I 'is removed from the strand or look of hair and the bobble pin holds the hair in curled position.
ment of parts and portions, and have described some obvious modifications, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination, and arrangement, nor to the modifications, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination, and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: a
1. In a hair dressing tool, a comb member including teeth extending laterally from one side of the body, and a prong on the opposite side of the body from said teethextending at a right angle from said laterally extending teeth and an extended handle for said body. I 2. In a hair dressing tool, a comb member including teeth extending laterally fromone side of the body and a prong on the opposite side of the body from said teeth extending at a ,right angle from said laterally extending teeth and an extended handle for said body, said extended handle being slotted at its extended end.
3. In a hair dressing tool, a comb member including teeth extending laterally-from one side 01 the body and a prong on the opposite side of the body from said teeth extending at a right angle from said laterally extending teeth and an extended handle for said bo y, said extended handle being slotted at its extended end, and
the slotted portion of said handle being separately connected with the comb.
4. In a hair dressing tool, a comb member provided with an'extended handle slotted at its extended end, and having a prong cooperatively associated with said comb.
5. In a hair dressing tool, a comb member provided'with an extended handle slotted at its extended end, and having a prong member positioned substantially longitudinal with the comb handle adjacent the comb and cooperatively associated therewith.
6. In a hair dressing tool, the combination of a comb member with an extended handle member provided with a reduced end, a combined handle and curling member readily secured on said reduced portion provided with a plurality of slots extending from the outer end inwardly forming three spaced members.
7. In a hair dressing tool, the combination of a comb member with teeth extending from one side thereof, an extended handle member provided with a reduced end, a combined handle and curling member readily secured on said reduced portion provided with a plurality of slots extending from the outer end inwardly forming three spaced members, and said comb member having a prong member cooperatively associated with said comb.
