ABSTRACT: A hairdressing comb comprising teeth. merging into a relatively wide back which has a longitudinal depression therein communicating with spaces between the teeth, the depression extending down into the mid range of the length of the teeth. The depression is wider at the back of the comb than at its bottom where it intersects the spaces between the teeth, and the sides are curved at least in the area of the bottom of the depression at the tooth intersection.
SANITARY coMs the free ends of which are largely conventional but which are much broader toward the roots, merging into a wide comb back, the comb back being recessed longitudinally, the recess intersecting the teeth and the spaces between the teeth so as to provide a plurality of discharge orifices from the recess to the spaces between the teeth, for the purpose of r'eceivingmaterial to be spread on the hair as the comb is used.
It is an object of the invention-to -provide a comb of this character in which the recess hasa smooth nonjointed curved bottom area which is easily cleaned.
()ther objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter. V
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in side elevation showing the comb;
FIG. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof looking in the direction ofarrow 2 in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a top plan view thereof looking in the direction of arrow 3 in FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 is an end view looking in the direction of arrow 4 in F IG. 1 on an enlarged scale, and
FIG. 5 is a section on line 5-5 of FIG. 1.
Looking at FIG. 1, the comb seems to have the appearance of a conventional rat tail comb but having a split end at and 12 for the purpose of rolling curls and the like. The individual teeth l4 have the appearance of normal teeth except that their roots extend for a greater length than usual and the back edge which is apparent in FIG. .1 at 16 is narrower than usual in a direction parallel to the teeth. 1
As a matter of fact, however, the back of the comb as well as the roots of the teeth in the area at 18 are relatively greatly widened in a direction transverse of the comb as clearly apparent from the other figures, the teeth 14 widening out to a relatively great extent in the mid area thereof represented at 2%, on convexo-concave curves asshown in FIGS. 4 and 5, and the handle of the comb is made to suit tapering down to the points ill and 32 as indicated at 22.
The back of the comb is relatively deeply recessed inwardly from its extreme edge toward the roots of the teeth to merge with the wider and root area of the teeth, and the resultant recess is indicated generally by the reference numeral 24. It will be seen that by reason of the fact that the teeth are long, they intersect the recess throughout a relatively elongated area which is indicated at 26.
It is therefore clear that a fluid deposited in the elongated recess 24 has ready access to leak through the orifices indicated at 28 in FIG. 3 to the area of the teeth that are narrowedto a more or less conventional shape, and therefore this fluid is deposited upon the hair of the'person being dressed.
-Most lotions have a relatively high degree of viscosity and therefore the fluid does not just run through the comb but tends to leak relatively slowly in the desired direction, and the comb may be used to pick up the fluid by a spooning action, if desired.
It will be noted that the depression has a curved bottom at 30 and that the sidewalls thereof at the interior at 32, 32 are slanted downwardly toward the bottom and merge smoothly into it. This enhances the free flow of all of the fluid located in the recess, and it also makes the recess very easy to clean simplyby holding the same under the water tap or by the use of a brush and it will be appreciated that if the sidewalls 32 were parallel, and the bottom at 30 straight across at right angles thereto, it would be difficult to clean out the recess.
We claim:
l. A readily washable comb comprising a back portion having a deep recess therein with spaced teeth formed integral with the back portion and extending upwardly into the back portion and downwardly below the recessed back portion, said recess in the back portion being permanently open at the top to permit ready access of liquid from a tap into the recess and having slotted openings in the sides and bottom thereof commun cating with thespaces between the teeth, whereby on application of a liquid to the back portion the comb may be readily cleaned, the liquid running out from the recess between the teeth so that the spaces between the teeth are flushed out, the recesshaving smooth, unimpeded walls and bottomto assist in the free flow of the liquid.
