Description

J. H. FLEISCH.
Neoktie.
N0. 210,514. Patented Des. 3,1878.
UNI'I'ED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB H. FLEISCH, OB NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN NEGK-TIES.
Specificntion forlning pmt 0f Letters Patent N0. 210,514, dnted December 3, 1878; application filed Octobe1 10, 1878.
T0 all whom z't may concern:
Be it known (hat I, J AOOB H. FLEISCH, of the city, county, und State 0f New York, have invented a new and nsefnl Improvement in Scarfs, which improvement is fully seu f01th in the following specification, reference being had t0 the accompanying drzuving, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view 0f my scarf. Fig. 2 is a similar view therof, partly in secti0n. Fig. 3 1's a side view thereof, partly in seetion.
Similar letcers indicate corresponding parts.
My improvement is especially adapted t0 that dass of scarfs consisting of a scarf-knot an apron projecting from the scarf-knot, und n neck-band.
In this style 0f scarfs tlxe knot an l the apron 2L1e nsnally fastened together, and the neokband is fastened t0 the kll0 at one end, while ab its other end the neck-band 1's loose and is drawn throngh fl1e knon t0 regnlate its length, tl1e same being caught a-nd held in position by a pin attaohed to the knot.
'lhe aim of my invention is t0 prodnee a scarf of tl1e above eharacter in which the length 0f the neck-band nmy be regulated by an ad jnst- 1nent of the searf-knot, so ns t0 better adapt tl1e scarf t0 a standing c011ar and it consists in an open-back neclaband, a scarf-apron suspended fron1 the forward euds of said neckband, und. zu detached sliding scarf-knot situated ab thejnnction 0f the neck-band and the npron, the whole being so combined that, by plncing the ope1rbnck neek-bnnd around the neck and fa-stening the same ab its rear ends, and then sliding alle scarf-knot in t-l1e proper direction, the neck-bzmd is t-i ghtened and fitted t0 t-11e neck.
In the dmwing, tne 1etter A designates .the neck-band, B tl1e apron, und 0 the kn0t, 0f my scarf. (Ehe neck-band A is made in two parts, which are detaehed fro1n each other zu; the rear end, and eacl1 provided With n bntton-hole, a, ab such end, while they are firmly attached t0 rhe scarf-apron B at theirforward ends. 'lhe tw0 arts of the neck-band A 2ne crossed near their forward ends, to 1essen the tendency 0f an accidental movement 0f the scarf-knot, and also for the purpose 0f giving proper direction t0 the movement 0f the neek-band. The scarfknot G is sitnated ab tl1e jnnction of the two parts 0f the 0pen neckband A a-nd the ap1on B, but is detached from these two parts. The. snid kn0t O is prevented f101n being moved down over the ap1on B beyond a certain extent by partially closing the knot ab its upper end, as ab D, whereby n st0p is formed, against which the npper end 0f the apron 01 the crossed part of the neck-band A strikes 01 abuts when the scarf-knot is moved downward.
VVhen my scarf is t0 be worn the two parts 0f ehe band A me dmwn er placed ar0nnd the neck. The button-hole a in euch part is then fastened 011 the bnton in the back of the shi1t, and the scarf-knot0 is shoved upward, whereby the neck-bandis tightened and is fitted t0 ehe neck. I thns adapt the neck-band to necks 0f varions different sizes.
lf desired, 21 1100]; and eye, 01 any othe1 Suitab1e fnstening device, nmy be substitnted f01' the button-holes a, to connect the parts 0f the neck-bzmd together; bnt I prefer t0 nse button-holes, t0 be fastened to the shirt-button, becanse 0f the. simplieity 0f this connection, und becanse the parts of the nach-band nre thereby 11013 only connected together, bn prevented froxn shifting 01 rising 011 the back ot the shirt-collar.
If desired, 1noreover, ehe neck-bnnd, instend 0f being 1nade in two Parts, 1nay be nmde in one piece, which is fnstened 130 the scarf-apron in the middle ofits length und it nmy be nnule in one piece witl1 the aprdn.
VVhat; I claim as new, and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is-
A S02Llf consisting 0f an open-back neckband, a scarfapron snspended from sm'd nackband, und a detached sliding scarf-knot situated ab the junetion of the neck-band und the apron, all constrncted und adapted t0 operate substant ially as described.
In testimony that I clain1 the foregoing I hereunto set- 1ny band and sea1 this 5th day 0f October, 1878.
JACOB H. FLEISCH.
