Description
Nov. 16, 1937. GOLDHAMMER 2,099,439
` PASTING PRESS med Nov. 11, 1955 In venfor Leo GoJhammer By Aforney I Patented Nov. 16, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PASTING PRESS Application November 11, 1935, Serial No. 49,141 In Germany November 14, 1934 4 Claims.
My present invention relates to a pasting press and Vmore particularly to a pasting press for sound :ulmv of substandard size.
One of its objects is an improved pasting press for substandard sound film. Further objects will be seen from the detailed specification following hereafter. Reference is made to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 shows a top view of a pasting press in accordance with the invention,
Fig. 2 shows a side view of the pasting press in section on line 2--2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 shows a section of the pasting press onv line 3-3 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 shows the same section as Fig. 3 withthe balance frame in the alternative position, and
Fig. 5 shows a conventional View of the balance frame partly in section.
It is known that narrow sound films are perforated only on one side, so that the perforation row is at the one margin and the sound track on the other margin of the film. Sound films are known, in which the perforation row lies on the left-hand margin when viewed from the side of the emulsion layer and other sound films are known in which the perforation row is on the right hand side. When both kinds of lms are 'to be pasted the difficulty arises that the film must be laid onto the press in the one case in such a. manner that the emulsion layer is under the support and in the other case above the support, since the hitherto known pasting presses for sound film possess a denture only in the one side.
In order to facilitate pasting, a balance frame is mounted to the press according to this invention. This balance frame is provided with a pair of pins on both sides so that each pair may a1- ternatively be brought into engagement with two perforation holes of the lm according to whether the perforation holes lie on the left-hand or right-hand margin of the film.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
On the bed-plate l of the pasting press there are arranged guide pins 2 for guiding the lm band 3 laterally. With a knife 4 the film may be cut. According to the present invention a balance frame is inserted on the lower side ofV the pasting press, which has on each side a pair of pins 6 and 1 arranged in a distance from each other equal to that of the perforation holes in the substandard film. According to whether the film to be pasted has the perforation row at the 55- left hand or the right hand margin, the balance frame 5 may be turned about the pins la by means of the lever 8. The holes 5b in the balance frame are oval so that they have the necessary play for turning said frame. The spring lever 8 may be turned around the bolt 9 and is 5 in contact with the lower side of the balance frame. According to the position of tlie lever 8. the pair of pins 6 engages the film perforation 3a through the openings I0, or the pair of pins 1 projects through the openings Il.
What I claim is:
l. A pasting press comprising in combination a bed-plate, two rows of lm guide pins arranged on said bed-plate at a substantial distance from each other for guiding a lm of substandard size, said bed-plate being provided with a' pair of openings near each rowof iilnn guide pins for registering with two successive perforations of a substandard film, a balance frame arranged on said bed-plate, two pairs of mmf-engaging pins ar- 2o ranged on said balance frame at places registering with said holes, and meansl for bringing one of said pairs of hn-engaging pins-into engagement with one of said pairs of bed-plate openings and through the latter into engagement with the perforations of a lm while the other pair of film-engaging pins remains in retracted position.
2. A pasting press comprising in combination a bed-plate, two rows of film guide pins arranged on said bed-plate at a substantial distance from each other for guiding a film of substandard size, said bed-plate being provided with a pair of openings near each row of said lm guide pins for registering with two successive perforations of a substandard film, a balance frame mounted on said bed-plate on the side opposite to that which carries the film guide pins, two pairs of film engaging pins arranged on said balance frame at places registering with said bed-plate openings, and means for bringing one of said pairs of film-engaging pins into engagement with one of said pairs of bed-plate openings and through the latter into engagement with the perforations of a lm while the other pair of filmengaging pins remains in retracted position.
3. A pasting press comprising in combination a bed-plate, two rows of film guide pins arranged on said bed-plate at a substantial distance from each other for guiding a lm of substandard size, said bed-plate being provided with a pair of openings near each row of said i'llm guide pins for registering with two successive perforations of a substandard iilm, two pins mounted at a substantial distance from each other on the side of said bed-plate opposite to that which carries the nlm guide pins. a balance frame provided with two openings; said two bed-plate pins engaging said two balance frame openings. two pairs of nlm engaging pins mounted on said balance frame at places registering with said bed-plate openings, and means for bringing one of said pairs of nlm-engaging pins into engagement with one of said pairs of bed-plate openings and through the latter into engagement with the perforations of a iilm while the other pair of filmengaging pins remains in retracted position.
4. A pasting press comprising in combination a bed-plate, two rows of nlm guide pins arranged on said bed-plate at a substantial distance from each other for guiding a lm of substandard size, said bed-plate being provided with a pair or openings near each row of nlm guide pins for registering with two successive perforations of a substandardlm, two pins mounted at a substantial distance from each other on the side of said bedplate opposite to that which carries the illm guide pins, a balance frame provided with two openings, said two bed-plate pins engaging said two balance frame openings, two pairs of film-engaging pins mounted on said balance frame at planes registering with said bed-plate openings, a lever pivotally mounted on the side oi.' said bed-plate on which said balance frame is mounted, said lever engaging said balance frame, so that on turning said lever alternatively one pair of nlmengaging pins engages one pair of bed-plate holes and through the latter one pair of periorations of a lm while the other pair of film-engaging pins remains in retraeted position.
