Description
Sept. 14, 1937. H. H. HAMER SANITARY TOILET SEAT Filed Feb. 17, 1957" INVENTOR. HAEEY H HAM??- ATTORNEY.
Patented Sept. 14, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,093,168 SANITARY TOILET SEAT Harry H. Hamer, Narbcrth, Pa.
Application February 17, 1937, Serial No. 126,107
4 Claims.
This invention relates to sanitary seat covers which are designed for use with toilet seats, and is concerned primarily with a cover intended to be used on a toilet seat of divided construction; that 5 is one which is made up of two curved side parts which are connected at the rear or hinged edge, but which are spaced apart at the front.
The invention has in view as its foremost objective the provision of a sanitary seat cover of the character described which is of an envelope construction,.whereby the parts of the seat are completely enclosed by the cover, which is preferably made from some disposable material, such as tissue.
With this arrangement the edge of the seat opening is covered by the sanitary seat cover, whereby sanitary protection to a degree heretofore unattained is provided.
In carrying out this idea in a practical embodiment, the cover is made with parts which conform generally to the contour of each seat part, and
which are designed to receive the latter. Due to the hinged mounting of the seat, the under-side of the envelope is cut away, to accommodate the structure on the under-side of the seat.
Due to the fact that some little difliculty might be experienced in handling the sanitary seat covers because of the individuality of the parts which receive the side parts of the seat, the invention has in View as a further more detailed object the provision of means for fastening these parts of the seat cover together at the front end. This fastening means may take any approved form, such as a strip of material extending between these parts, and properly anchored thereto.
Various other more detailed objects such as arise in connection with carrying out the above noted objectives in a practical embodiment will in part become apparent, and in part be hereinafter 40 stated, as the description of the invention proceeds.
The invention, therefore, comprises a sanitary seat cover which is intended to be used on a two part toilet seat made up of two individual side parts connected and hinged at the rear. The
seat cover is of an envelope formation having porthe invention, reference may be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a top plan view of a toilet seat with a sanitary cover applied thereto in accordance with the precepts of this invention. In this view a portion of the cover is broken away and shown in section, to bring out the manner in which the seat is enveloped, and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the seat cover per se.
Referring now to the drawing, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts, a toilet seat is referred to generally by the reference character S, and is shown as comprising side parts I0 and II which are spaced apart at the front, but which are connected by a rear portion l2. The parts II], II and I2 define the opening of the seat S. As shown at iii in Figure 1, division is made for hingedly mounting the seat S to an appropriate bowl structure. (Not illustrated.)
Referring now more particularly to Figure 2, a sanitary seat cover made in accordance with this invention is designed to fit over the seat S of Figure 1, and is shown as comprising an envelope formation consisting of side portions l4 and I5, and a rear portion E6. The rear portion l6 has a top portion I1, and a bottom portion I8, and the latter is cut away, as represented at I 9, to accommodate the hinged structure l3, when the cover is assembled on the toilet seat S.
Each of the legs l4 and I5 is designed to receive the side portions II and ll] of the seat S respectively, and when assembled, as shown in Figure 1, the edge of the opening defined by the parts I 0, I I and I2 is fully protected by the parts l4, l5 and IS.
The side portions l4 and I5 of the cover may be connected by a strip shown at 20, which extends therebetween for the purpose of facilitating convenient handling of the seat.
As shown in Figure 2, the seat cover is shown as flattened out, as this. would be the ordinary condition of the cover prior to assembly with the seat. In this condition it may be folded into any appropriate shape, for storage or handling purposes. As the cover is being positioned about the seat, the top and bottom I! and It! will be spread about to permit of the insertion of the side parts 10 and II.- v
The cover shown in Figure 2 may be made from any appropriate disposable material, but the invention particularly contemplates the use of a tissue having the desired properties of toughness, disposability and cheapness.
While a preferred specific embodiment of the invention is hereinbefore set forth, it is to be clearly understood that I am not to be limited to the exact construction illustrated and described, because various modifications of these details may be provided in putting the invention into practice within the purview of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A sanitary toilet seat cover of the character described comprising an envelope having side portions designed to receive the side parts of a two-part toilet seat, and a rear portion connecting said side portions.
2. A sanitary toilet seat cover of the character described comprising an envelope having side portions designed to receive the side parts of a two-part toilet seat, and a rear portion connecting said side portions, the under-side of said rear portion being cut away to provide a recess for accommodating the hinged structure of a. toilet seat.
3. A sanitary toilet seat cover of the character described comprising an envelope having side portions designed to receive the side parts of a two-part toilet seat, a rear portion connecting said side portions, and means for connecting the side portions together at the front end.
4. A sanitary toilet seat cover of the character described comprising an envelope having side portions designed to receive the side parts of a two-part toilet seat, a rear portion connecting said side portions, the under-side of said rear portion being cut away to provide a recess for accommodating the hinged structure of a toilet seat, and a strip extending between the side portions at the front end to facilitate handling.
