IMPROVEMENT IN ClGAR-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,604, dated October 1, 1878; application tiled l June 27, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MORITZ J oNAs, of New York city and State, have invented an Iinproved Cigar-BOX, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a perspective view of box; Fig. 2, a perspective View of one section; Fig. 3, an end view of open box.
The invention will irst be described in oonnection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
A in Fig. l represent-s a hexagonal cigar-box, made in two sections, the top and bottom as well as the sides parallel, and the ends forming equal angles. The sections are formed as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, and hinged together at one side, as shown in Fig. 1, being locked together in any approved manner at the other side.
The advantage of this construction is, that the packing of the cigars is greatly facilitated.
The angular end walls, B, are provided with removable end panels, O, preferably made of glass, so that the cigars may be conveniently inspected without breaking the stamp.
The cigars are made up in bundles of ten, so as to t closely and economize space.
When glass panels are employed, the front and rear walls should be connected by crossstays, as shown in Fig. 1, and, if desired, each section may be closed in by a bottom or top, D, as shown in Fig. 2.
The essential feature and great advantage of this box consist in its being divisible into equal equilateral triangular spaces, so as to receive cigars arranged in triangular packages. These not only allow the article to be exhibited to great advantage, but enable the cigars to be packed quickly and with great economy of space.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new is The hexagonal cigar-box A, made in two hinged sections, as shown in Fig. l of the drawing, and for the purpose specified.
