Description

(No Model.)
L. SONN. DISPLAY BOX.
Patented Apr. 14, 1896.
ATTORNEYfi ANDREW BGRAMAM. PNUTO-IIFHQWASNINGTOND C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEOPOLD SONN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DISPLAY-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 558,432, dated April 14, 1896.
Application fil d November 22, 1895. Serial No. 569,819. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD SONN, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented'new and useful Improvements in Display-Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to boxes for the packing and display of neckwear and the object is to so construct the box that each necktie may be mounted on an independent support removably secured in the box, which not only displays the neckwear to the best advantage, but prevents the soiling of the ties by handling, as in removing a tie from the box its support is to be drawn out with it.
I will describe a display-box embodying my invention and then point out the novel features'in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a plan View of a box embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The box comprises a bottom A, side pieces A, and end pieces A The box is preferably made of paper-board, and it is to be provided with a cover, which it is not deemed necessary to show herein.
Strips of wood or similar material A are secured to the interior of the box adjacent to the side pieces A. These strips are secured by a suitable adhesive to the bottom only of thebox, so that the side and end pieces .are entirely free to be torn off, if desired, thus forming a rack composed of the strips A and the bottom of the box. The inner faces of the kerfs a are parallel throughout their length, so that the supports A will retain their proper inclination should the box be stood on end, as may sometimes be desired in displaying the goods in a store-window or on shelves or counters.
It is obvious that a display-box embodying my invention has several advantages over boxes as ordinarily made for the purpose. A salesman in removing a tie from the box will take hold of its support and draw it from the box, thus making it unnecessary to touch the tie and possibly soiling it; and, further, a purchased tie and its support may be wrapped up together to prevent the rumpling of the tie in the hands or pocket of the purchaser.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A display-box, comprising a bottom and side and end pieces, strips having inclined kerfs and secured to the inner surface of the bottom only of the box, whereby the side and end pieces may be removed to form a rack, and the tie-supports having their ends removably engaged in the kerfs and their upper edges extended above the strips, substantially as specified. LEOPOLD SONN.
