DISPLAY-BOX FOR NECKTIES.
LSFECIFIQATEION forming part of LettersPatent No. 378,224, dated February 21, 1888.
Application filed November 1, 1887. Serial No. 253,956. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN W. M. Ul-IRIG: of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Display-Boxes for Neckties, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a box or case for containing series of cravats or neckbows, in which the bow portion of each is formed of an intermediate portion of a suitable strip of material, the said box being designed to support said how portions for a display thereof and permit of a disposition of the tying-strips bencath said how portions, as a shield or guard thereof from view and also from dust, 850.;
and it consists in a peculiar construction of a box or case, all substantiallyas will be hereinafter more fully described, and set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is aperspective view of a box constructed in accordance with the present invention, with a part thereof broken away 2 and in cross section, showing the disposition therein of a series of cravats or necktics.
In the drawing, A represents a box of suitable rectangular form, having bottom and end and side walls, as shown, and intermediate of its length a transverse partition, B. At the inside of each side wall, intermediate of its height, I provide an inwardly-projecting horizontal wing, O, the said wings of each side extending almost to the middle longitudinal line of the boxa Apractieal, inexpensive, and neatmanner of forming the wings is by employing a strip of card or paste board of suitable width, bending same on a longitudinal line, or, midway of its edges, one, 3 of said angular portions being placed against the inside of the casing and there soon red by paste, cement, or in any other suitable way, thus holding the angularly-projecting wings as one with and as a rigid per 5 tion of the sides of the box.
The cravat or necktie,for the reception and disposition of which the box of the present invention is designed, as described, is of the form comprising a bow, a, formed of or at the intermediate portion of a narrow strip of suitable material-as silk, satin, lawn, due.- the end or tying portions of said strip when packed for sale being folded under said how in the manner shown in the drawing, and said folded end portions are placed in the bottom of the box, with the wings 0 between them and the loop portions of the necktie.
A common fly-leaf, D, may be confined by its one end to the end of or side of the box, and adapted to lie over the bows, as in many in stances will be found desirable.
Partitions, as B, are useful in separating the series of ties into sets of certain desired numbers-as of dozens or half-dozensand by the employment of wings for holding the bows, as described, said bows are sustained against drooping, they always appearing fresh, crisp, and attractive, are prevented from becoming creased, and preclude, in the dusting of the faces of the bows, any entrance of dust to the underlying parts of the ties,
While the wings are intended to be projected inwardly from the side walls of the box intermediate ol'its height, as shown, said wings may in some cases, if found desirable, be ex- 7 tended in the plane of the top edges of the box, and the formation of the wings is not to be limited to any particular material nor to any particular means of their attachment.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Areoeptacle and display-box for containing and supporting neckties, of substantially the character described, having its side walls provided with longitudinally and inwardly extending wings, substantially as described.
2. A receptacle and display-box for containing and supporting neckties, of substantially the character described, having its side walls provided with longitudinally-extending side wings, each formed of an angularlybent strip of suitable stiff material, one angular portion of which is secured by paste or cement to one of the inner sides of said box, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. A receptacle and display-box for containing and supporting neckties, of substantially the character described, having its side walls intermediate of its height provided with lonrco l l l of an ang .llarly-bent strip of suitable stifi' ma IO terial, one angular portion of which is secured by paste or cement to one of the inner sides of said box, all substantially as and for the purpose described.
JOHN W. M. UHRIG.
