Description
G. W. CLARK Bottle.
No. 207,502. Patented Aug. 27,1878.
N.PETERS. PHOTO-LITMOGRAPHEE WASHINGTON, D C.
GEORGE W. CLARK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
lM PROVEM ENT IN BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,502, dated August 27, 1878; application filed December 1, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. CLARK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the followingis a specification:
This invention relates to that class of ornamental bottles that are now used on the tables in first-class hotels and restaurants for containing water in lieu of the usual pitchers. Such classes of bottles, in many cases, are provided with ice in their interior, the same by a costly process and apparatus being frozen in the bottle and taking the shape of the interior contour thereof. Such process of freezing is objectionable from its costly nature, to say nothing of the losses inflicted by the fre quent breaking of the bottles by reason of the expansion of the water during the freezing process. It is very desirablefor many reasons to be able to supply these bottles filled with ice in large lumps, and that without the expense and labor now required, and the present invention is designed to fill such demands.
The invention consists in forming the bottle in two sections, the upper section forming the mouth, neck, and shoulders, and the lower section the body, all of which, with the method of construction and application, will be hereinafter fully pointed out and described.
The drawing, which forms an essential and important part of this specification, represents a vertical section of a bottle in which my invention is fully embodied.
The prime object of my invention is to provide a bottle of ornamental form, having a small long neck for discharging the contents, and capable of having introduced into the interior thereof ice in lumps much larger than the narrow neck will admit; and, in order to attain that object, I propose to form the bottle as shown, the body Athereof being formed from glass and provided, on the interior, at its apex, with a screw-thread, d; the mouth, neck, and shoulder F being formed in one piece, and at the base thereof provided with a screw-thread, 6, corresponding to that on the bottle-body. This upper portion of the bottle is formed from metal, and plated or otherwise ornamented on its exterior.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A bottle formed in two sections, the lower section or body being of glass and the upper section, forming the shoulders, neck, and mouth, made of metal in ornamental form, the two sections being united by a screw-thread or other suitable means, all substantially as herein shown and described.
2. Abottle, substantially as herein described, consisting of the glass body A, having screwthread 61 at its apex, and a detachable shoulder, neck, and mouth formed from metal in one piece and provided with screw-thread e.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of November, A D.
GEORGE W. CLARK. In presence of A. L. MUNsoN, E. G. WARD.
