IMPROVEMENT IN SClSSORS-SHARPENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,339, dated August 27, 1878; application filed January 22, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM HENRY BAR- WIGK, of Hyde Park, in the county of Norfolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement pertaining to a Scissors-Sharpener and Needle-Gleaner, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side View. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 1 1 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a plan View.
The letterA denotes the main body or block; B, a tempered-steel pin, a guide and cutter. a is the emery-pad. b is the opening for passing needle through the cartridge. 0 is a plug to follow cartridge. d is the cartridge of emery-powder, or its equivalent, inserted in the main body or block.
Dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 3 show position of cartridge, plug, and opening for needle.
The object of my invention is to sharpen both blades of the scissors in one operation, at the same time giving both blades the same bevel on the cutting-edges.
The operation of sharpening scissors is performed by holding the main body or block A between the thumb and forefinger of the left hand, placing the scissors with the right hand, with blades extended, astride the pin B, both blades resting close down on the main body or block. Shut the scissors lightly against the pin, as if to out it off, drawing toward you as the blades close. If required,repeat the operation.
