1 Claim.

The invention relates to a case forming table and more especially to .foldable tables for obstetric work.

The primary object of the invention is fihe'provision of a table of this "character, wherein the same when in setup condition enables the carrying forth of obstetric work with dispatch and with case both on the part of 'the physician or surgeon and attendant as the table will assure comfort to the patient and better position for both the patient and doctor and allows for the disposition of all wastematter during and after child birth.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a table of this character wherein the same when folded is converted into a carrying case so that it can be carried by a physician or surgeon in a convenient "manner and is susceptible of being set up ready for use with dispatch, the legs of the table being folded and unfolded automatically on the opening and closing of such table.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a table of this character, wherein a removable container is fitted so that surgical bag can be conveniently stored and is accessible for the use of the surgical instruments contained therein "while the container is adaptable as a wash basin or sterilizing pan when the table is set up for use. I

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a table of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel inform and assures sanitary conditions during child birth and is capable of lending comfort to a patient and also assures the carrying away-of excretions or other matter and the deposit thereof in a jar or other receiver, thereby eliminating the presence of filth and avoids the necessary clean-up required after child birth.

.A still further object of the invention is the provision of a table of this character, which .is comparatively simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eiiicient in its purposes, strong, durable, readily and easily folded and unfolded, when folded can be transported without discomfort and with ease and is .inexpensiveto manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the inyention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment ,of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

The member is provided with a latching nib 22 for engagement in a keeper notch 23 in the member l9 so that the brace will be latched in bracing position when the leg I6 has been unfolded completely on the setting up of the table. The member 20 is in form a bell crank and is pivoted at 24 to a bed plate 25 secured internally of the frame In. This member 20 has pivotal link connection 26 with a rocking arm 2'! which intermediate thereof is supported'upon a pivot 28 on the bed plate 25. The arm 21 has pivotal linkage connection 29 with a crank 30, there being a pair of these at each side of the table and these are pivoted at 3| together in straddling relation to the hinge jointed ends of the sections A and. B. The linkage connection 29, each is slidably fitted in a guide 32 fixed to and depending from the cover panel or board H while the crank plays in a guide slot 33 in the strap portion 34 of the hinge I4 adjacent thereto, the linkage connection 29 being tensioned by a coiled tensioning spring 35 when each leg [6 has been completely unfolded for supporting the table. This arrangement above referred to effects the automatic unfolding of the legs l6 and the folding thereof upon the unfolding and folding of the sections A and B of the table as will be clearly apparent from Figures 5, 6, and '7 of the drawings. The spring 35 has connection with the frame I0 and with the pivotal connection of the arm 21 and the linkage connection 29, respectively.

Provided in the section B close to the hinged end thereof and at the longitudinal center of the same is a substantially elliptical shaped opening 36 this normally being closed by a removable plug 31 held in place by a hasp 38 pivoted at 39 to the section and engageable with a keeper 40 carried by said plug 31, the hasp 38 being also engageable with a keeper 4| on the section as will appear in Figures 9, 10, and 11 of the draw- This opening 36 when the plug 31 is removed therefrom and the table is 'set up for use receives a drain spout 42 which is removably inserted therein and is integrally formed with a sanitary pad 43 provided with a buttock seating area 44, the pad 43 being adapted to be superimposed upon the section B and is of a size corresponding thereto with a marginal overlap 45 about opposite sides and the outermost end of said section. The purpose of the spout 42 is to drain excretion and other waste from the buttock area 44 and allow for the deposit thereof in a jar or other receiver so that the table when not in use will be free from accumulation of filth and at the same time the customary clean-up required after child birth is eliminated. The pad 43 with its nozzle 42 can be conveniently stored within the frames l0 when these are folded into case form as will be apparent from Figure 4 of the drawings.

The section A of the table has arranged within its frame l0 and carried by the covering board or panel II the stationary cleats 41 and latch 48, respectively, these cooperating for the detachable fastening of a container 49 within the frame III of the section A which is adaptable for accommodating a surgical instrument case or bag 50 and upon separation of this container 49 it is serviceable as a wash basin or a'sterilizing pan.

The sections A and B are provided with handles 5| which on the folding of said sections are brought together and match with one another so that on converting the table into a carrying case by the folding of said table it can be conveniently carried or transported as the folding of the table renders it portable.

The pairs of legs at the outer ends of the respective frames have located therebetween suitable braces 52 which are mounted to swing with the said legs [6 in the folding and unfolding thereof. These legs I6 when folded will be confined within the frames ll] of the sections A and B when brought together into case creation.

The latch 48 is manually releasable so that the container 49 can be separated from the table for use as a wash basin or sterilizing pan.

The braces including the members l9 and 20 will hold the legs l6 when completely unfolded in fixed supporting position for the sections A and B so that the table will be firm and secure when set up for service.

Hinged ends of the frames ill of the sections A and B carry bumper members 53 coacting with each other when the sections A and B have been straightened on the unfolding thereof into the same plane with each other.

The table when unfolded is especially serviceable for obstetrical operations and assures comfort to a patient and also convenience to the attending physician or surgeon and attendants, the table being readily folded and unfolded with dispatch and in the folding and unfolding the legs will be automatically folded and unfolded through the movements of the sections A and B. The table assures maximum sanitary conditions and also permits of the carrying away of filth and waste during obstetric performance.

This pad 43 at the seating area 44 has formed therewith radially disposed ribs 54 while marginally of said pad is a doubled portion 55 and bounding the portion 44 is a lining 56 which is marginally attached by adhesive, vulcanization or the like to form air cushion areas 57 which may be inflated in any suitable manner and such areas give greater ease for the patient and comfort in the servicing of the table.

What is claimed is:

A structure of the character described comprising complemental top sections each including a rectangular shaped frame and a covering board thereon, hinges connecting the frames to each other at ends adjacent one another for the swinging thereof in a carrying case folded condition, legs pivoted in the frames at the outer ends thereof, cranks arranged in the respective frames at opposite sides of the same and pivoted to each other in pairs for straddling the pivotally connected ends of said frames, break jointed braces pivoted to the legs and to the sides of said frames, rocking levers pivoted to the sides of the frames next to the braces, links connecting said rocking levers with the braces and said cranks,

respectively, and coiled tensioning springs fixed to the sides of the frames between the rocking levers and to the connections of the latter with the links connected with said cranks.
