, It accordingly is an object of to provide a novel form of apparatus in which a hospital or other bed has its 'wire mattress equipped with a frameworkdefin ing. an opening therein which opening is adapted to be opened and c'losed by means of a trap connection, of a framework hinged tothe framework of said mattress, means being used with said mattress beingprovided with an opening, into which may, belitted a block, preferably in the form of a truncated pyramid equipped with suitable fasteners whereby said block may bedetachably positioned in said opening, said block being alsoprovided with tabs or strings or-other means whereby said block may beudetachably associated with said trap to close or open the opening in said mattress. p
A further object of my invention -isto provide a novel form of bed panadministration means, preferably associated with one of theparts of the bed, being clamped thereto by suitable clamps, said postqhaving a link and lever construction, whereby said arm maybe swung to one side when said'pan is not in'use, a suitable stopbe ing provided on said post to prevent 'asliding movement of said collar. l
It is also within the provinceof my invention to provide my novel form -of trap with a locking means andan actuating-means for said locking means in the form of sets of toggles and levers whereby said locking means may be operated andthe trapswung toward and away from the mattress-with which it is associated. I
The above and further objects of my invention as will hereinafter more fully appear, I attain with the'apparatus constructed in accordance with the description in the my invention 'ti n specification and illustrated in the drawings accompanyingthe same and forming my application'.

The bed pan administration means comprises an auxiliary post 6-6, either solid or hollow, and preferably cylindrical, which post may be secured by suitable clamps'68 to oneof the bed posts 70. The arm 84, carrying thejbed pan 26, is now swung from its dotted position shown in Figs. 1 and 8 so that said pan will be directly under the opening in the mattress. The lever '74 isthen swung fromits extreme left horizontal position to its extremehorizontal right position as seen in full lines in Figs. 1 and 7. This movement of said lever causes the elevation of the sleeve 7 2, and the'arm, to be lifted from the position shown in Figs. 1 and 7, bringing the pan 26 into close engage ment with the hole in the mattress, the spring 38 securely holding said pan in such position.
After the pan has been used, the lever 74- is lifted to its extreme left position, thus low ering the sleeve 72, arm 84- and pan 26, after which the pan and arm may be swung. to the dotted position shown in Fig. 1, the bar 78' permitting the collar 80 to rotate with the sleeve 72, the stops 76 in each case preventing the lever 74: from dropping too far. It will thus be-seen that the amount of drop of the pan 26 is accurately limited. i
