My invention relates to improvements in toilet seats and one object of the invention is to provide a seat of this character with means whereby it can be readily converted from an adults into a childs seat, or vice versa.

A further object is to provide a seat of this character with a foot-rest for use by a child when sitting upon the seat, or for gaining access to or leaving said seat.

Another object is to provide a seat of this character which can be manufactured at a reasonable cost and which is durable in construction and not liable to get out of order.

In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of the toilet seat with thelid thereofI in closed position.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of thetoilet seat with the front section of the lid raised to expose a secondary opening.

Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the seat and the lid on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and also showing the entire lid raised from the seat in dotted lines.

Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of a foot rest and fittings for supporting said foot rest in operative position with respect to the toilet seat.

Referring in detail to the'diierent parts, A designates the customary toilet hopper which is provided with a seat 2 operably secured at its rear end to said hopper by suitable means such as hinges 4, so that it can be raised or lowered in the customary manner. The seat 2 is provided with a primary opening 6 for` use by adults.

8 designates the lid which 1s adapted to cover the primary opening 6 and a secondary opening hereinafter referred to. The lid 8 consists of a front section 10 and a rear section 12 which are operably connected at their adjacent ends by suitable means such as hinges 14. The rear section 12 1s provided at its rear end with a hinge member 16 which is operably connected to the pintles 18 of the hinges 4.

2O designates a filler block secured atlts rear portion to the under forwardportion of the rear section 12 by suitable means such `I/Vh'en the seat 2 is to be used by a as screws 22. The filler block 2O is shaped to fit into and close the rear portion of the primary opening 6 and form a small secondary opening 24 for use by small children,.the forward end of said filler block 20 being concaved andbeveled as indicated at 26 for cooperating with the seat 2 in forming a comfortable support for a child when using the tioilet.- Y

28 designates a foot rest whereby a small child may gain access to or leave the seat 2 and upon which the feet may rest while the child is using the toilet. The foot rest 28 is preferably curved as shown by Figs. 1, 2 and 4 to conform more or less to the curvature of the front portion of the hopper A. Hangers 30 are provided for supporting the foot rest 28 and in turn are adapted to be supported by fittings 32 secured to the under side of the seat 2 at opposite sides of the F opening 6. The hangers 30 are reinforced and held in parallel relation to each other by means of braces 34, so that they may be readily slipped into the fittings 32 or removed therefrom when desired.

From the foregoing description it is ap` parent that the primary and secondary openings 6 and 24 in the seat 2 may be covered with the lid 8 when the latter is extended and lowered to the position shown by Fig. 1.`

child it is only necessary to throw the front section 10 of the lid 8 back upon the rear section 12 as shown by Figs. 2 and 3, for the purpose of exposing the small secondary opening 24. When the seat 2 is to be used by an adult the lid 8 is swung from the full line to the dotted line position disclosed by Fig. 3 for the purpose of raising the filler block 20 out of the way and exposing the large primary opening f 6. If preferred the foot rest 28 with its hangers 30 may be removed before swinging the lid 8 to the last-mentioned position.

From the foregoing description it is apparent that I have provided a toilet seat pos-` sessing the advantages above pointed out, and while I have shown and described one form of the invention I reserve all rights t`o such other forms and modifications thereof s properly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patt ent, is:

l. A toilet seat having an opening, a lid arranged to cover and uncover said seat and consisting of front and rear sections hinged to ether so that one may be olded upon the ot er, and a filler block secured to the under side of and projecting forwardly from the rear section and arranged to fit Within and partly close the opening in the seat.

2. A toilet seat having a primary opening, removable means for partly closing said primary opening and :forming a secondary opening, fittings secured to the underside of said toilet seat and at opposite sides of the primary opening, hangers removably mounted in said fittings, means secured to said hangers to hold the latter in spaced relation to each other, and a foot rest supported by said hangers.
