This invention relates to a portable sanitary comfort seat for children, and more particularly to a device of this type adapted for compactness, convenience and neat appearance in motorcar traveling.

An object of the invention is the provision in a device of this type, of a neat appearing and compact closure for a comfort vessel of the type hereinafter described and shown in the drawing, while at the same time rendering said Vessel easy of access for use or cleansing.

Another object is the provision of a closure such as above mentioned, so constructed and formed as to act as a concealment for its purpose, as, for example, while lying unused in the seat of a motorcar, or being carried to or from a motorcar.

A further object is the provision of a sanitary seat guard that may be readily brought into position for use or folded up in a concealed position while not in use, and that may be easily detached for cleansing, and as easily replaced.

While traveling via automobile with small children a frequent source of great inconvenience and loss of time is the necessity for stopping enroute for the comfort of the children. This means as well, the necessity of using public rest rooms some of which subject children to poor toilet facilities, together with unclean and unsanitary conditions.

lVly invention is. constructed to render it possible to provide ready and convenient toilet comfort to a small child while traveling, without the inconvenience of stopping the motorcar, and to provide as well, personal equipment of this type of assured cleanliness.

My invention is also adaptable to bathrooms and toilets in homes where the children are too small to use the standard equipment.

In order that the nature and construction of the invention may be more readily understood, one form of construction is described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein like numerals indicate like parts throughout.

Fig. 1 is a side sectional View of the cabinet or closure, the vessel and the seat guard being in elevation as in position for use, the lid being shown partly up and the door open fully.

Fig. 2 is a front elevational View taken transversely of Fig. l.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary plan view of the under surface of the seat portion, showing particularly the detachable seat guard, the dotted lines showing the position of said seat guard when folded back out of use.

The invention comprises a substantially square shaped cabinet or box I0, having hingedly connected to one side of its top the lid II, the top or seat I 2 of said box I0 having a relatively large aperture I3 centrally therethrough, a detachable seat guard I4 is mounted integrally on the under surface of the said seat I2 adjacent to one side of the said aperture I3, and is adapted to protrude upwardly through said aperture I3 as shown particularly in Figs. 1 and 2, by means of the substantially right-angularly shaped supporting members I5 which are adapted to operate conjointly with each other, having at one end the formed eyelets I6 which pivotally engage the pair of angle brackets I'I by means of the rivets I8 and having at the other end the right-angularly formed fingers I6 adapted to slidably engage the sockets I4 of said seat guard I4 for the purpose of enabling said seat guard I4 to be detached for cleansing.

Said angle brackets I'I are secured to the under surface of said top I2 by means of the wood screws I9 projecting through the through holes Il'` in the feet 2G of said angle brackets I'I.

The spring yokes 2l and 22 are mounted in spaced relation to and oppositely of each other. The seat guard I4 is pivoted into position as indicated by the solid lines in Figs. 1 and 2 by means of manually pressing the pair of supporting members I5 against the spring yoke 2| to slidably engage the spring member 23 thereof until said supporting members I5 are thus moved into the grooves 2li and are there held in xed position until disengaged.

To disengage the seat guard It and pivot it into concealed position as indicated by the dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2 the supporting members I5 are released from engagement with the spring yoke 2l by the hand of the operator and then pivoted into similar engagement with the spring yoke 22. Said spring yokes 2l and 22 are secured to the under surface of the top I2 by means of the wood screws 25 protrudingvthrough the through holes 26 disposed centrally in said spring yokes 2l and 22. v

A pair of parallelly and integrally dispose track members 27 is mounted inside the box I0 as shown particularly in Figs. 1 and 2, said track members 27 being adapted to engage in slidable relation thereto the flanged rim 28 of the vessel 29, said vessel 29 being thereby enabled to slide in and out of said box l at the will of the operator.

The hinged door 30 provides easy access to and concealment of the vessel 29, while the hinged lid H conceals the top of the seat l2, thus imparting a neat appearance to the invention, particularly when not in use.

With the foregoing description of this device in connection with the accompanying drawing it is thought that its novel though simple arrangement and construction is clearly evident, and while I show but one type of structure it is to be understood that such changes indetails of construction as may be made to suit the requirements of the purpose for which the device is intended may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

I claim:

1. In a portable comfort cabinet comprising a housing having a horizontally disposed seat cover with an opening therethrough, a detachable semicircular guard plate hingedly secured to the underneath side of said seat cover and adapted to be raised to vertical position inside the edge of said opening, and spring means mounted on said Seat cover for holding said guard plate in raised and lowered positions, respectively.

In a portable comfort cabinet comprising a housing having a horizontally disposed seat cover with an opening therethrough, a detachable semicircular guard plate hingedly secured to the underneath side of said cover, said guard plate being adapted to be raised to vertical position inside the edge of said opening, spring means mounted on said seat cover for holding said guard plate in raised and lowered positions respectively, and means carried by said guard plate for detaching it from said seat cover.

In a portable comfort cabinet comprising a a housing having a horizontally disposed seat cover with an opening therethrough, a detachable semi-circular guard plate hingedly secured to the underneath side of said seat cover, a pair of sockets on said guard plate, said sockets being adapted to detachably receive the ends of supporting rods hingedly mounted on said seat cover, said supporting rods enabling said guard plate to be raised to normal position inside the edge of said opening and to be folded back underneath said cover away from said opening, and spring grip means mounted on said cover and adapted for engagement with said rods to hold same in normal or folded positions.

In a portable comfort cabinet comprising a housing having a horizontally disposed seat cover With an opening therethrough, a detachable semi-circular guard plate having a pair of sockets on its outer surface spaced apart from each other, a pair of rods having one end of each bent at a right angle for insertion in said sockets and having the other end formed into an eye through which said rods are pivotally secured to a pair of brackets attached to the underneath side of said cover to permit said, guard plate to be hingedly moved forwardly to a position Within said opening or folded rearwardly away from said opening, and a pair of spring grip members, so located as to engage each of said rods at intermediate points therefrom to hold said rods and guard plate in either normal or folded position.
