Description

Nov. 16, 1948." w. H. PERRIN CHILD'S TOILET SEAT Filed July 28. 1944 Hiam Howard Per in Patented Nov. 16, 1948 OFFICE CHILDS TOILET SEAT William Howard Perrin, Grand Rapids, Mich.
Application July 28, 1944, Serial No. 546,990
The present invention relates to toilet seats, and more particularly to a childs toilet seat.
The primary objects of the instant invention are to provide a childs auxiliary toilet seat which may be pivotally secured to a conventional modern adult toilet seat upon removal of the cover member of such adult toilet seat; to provide such an auxiliary toilet seat which has a cover adapted to be lifted to form a back when used by a child and to be folded downwardly and secured in such position when not in use; to provide such an auxiliary toilet seat and its cover which may be lifted when desired for use by an adult; and, to provide such a seat which may be readily and conveniently fitted to a conventional adult toilet seat and which is reasonably economical in manufacture.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a perspective view of a conventional toilet seat and the childs auxiliary toilet seat pivotally connected therewith and showing its cover in lifted position for use by a child;
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof, the cover thereof being in section on line 2-2 of Figure 4;
Figure 3 is a front elevational view showing the cover in partially lifted position; and
Figure 4 is a side elevational view in use position by a child and partially in section.
Referring then to the drawing wherein like parts of the structure shown are designated by the same numerals in the several views, the same comprises a conventional toilet bowl Ill and a conventional adult toilet seat ll hingedly secured thereto adjacent its rear upper surface l2.
The childs auxiliary toilet seat comprises a seat portion I3 having spaced apart hinge members l4 pivotally connected to the rod [5 intermediate the hinge members I6 of the adult seat and installed in lieu of the conventional cover of the adult seat The auxiliary seat I3 is provided with a seat cover i1 pivotally secured adjacent its rearward end by means of the hinge member l8 and the opposite sides of the auxiliary seat l3 are each preferably provided with an arm I 9, each hingedly secured at its rearward end by the spring actuated hinges 20 and at its forward end by spring actuated hinges 2| which spring actuated hinges normally elevate the arms to a substantially vertical position as shown in Figure 1 from their position shown in Figure 2 and as indicated in Figure 3.
The auxiliary seat I3 is further provided with cammed sides 22 whereby the downward folding 2 Claims. (Cl. 4-239) movement of said seat from its position shown in Figure 1, through its position shown in Figure 3 to its position shown in Figure 2 effects an outward folding movement of the arms [9 and against the tension of the spring actuated springs 20, H.
The forward end of the auxiliary seat I3 is provided with a projecting pin 23 and the back I! which forms a seat cover when in its downwardly folded position is provided with a pivotally secured latch member 24 providing means for detachably locking the back or seat cover ll to the seat l3 when the auxiliary seat is not in use and in instances wherein it is desired to lift the auxiliary seat and its cover or back for adult use of the adult seat I 1.
One of the arms I9 is preferably provided with a strap 25 secured at one end thereof whose opposite end is adapted to be detachably secured to the other arm to thereby strap the child upon the auxiliary seat and the cover or back IT is likewise here shown as provided with apertures 26 adapted to seat the seat cover actuation springs 2i when the seat cover is in its downwardly folded latched position.
It will thus be seen that the childs toilet seat may readily and conveniently be fitted to replace the seat cover of a conventional toilet seat and that the same is reasonably economical in manufacture and while but one specific embodiment of the invention has been herein shown and described, it will be understood that certain details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of the invention as the same is defined by the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a structure of the class described, an auxiliary toilet seat adapted to be hingedly secured adjacent its rearward end to the rearward portion of a conventional toilet seat, a cover hingedly secured adjacent the rearward end of the auxiliary seat and forming a back when in its upwardly unfolded position, said cover having in tegrally formed cammed sides, and a normally vertically disposed spring actuated arm hingedly secured on each opposite side of the auxiliary seat, each arm adapted to be folded outwardly by the engaging of the cammed sides of the cover with the upper lengths of the arms during the downwardly folding movement of the cover.
2. In a structure of the class described, an auxiliary toilet seat adapted to be hingedly secured adjacent its rearward end to the rearward portion of a conventional toilet seat, a cover hingedly secured adjacent the rearward end of the auxiliary seat and forming a back when in its upwardly unfolded position, said cover having cammed sides, and a normally vertically disposed spring actuated arm hingedly secured on each opposite side of the auxiliary seat, each arm adapted to be folded outwardly by the engaging of the cammed sides of the cover with the upper lengths of the arms during the downwardly folding movement .toi the cover and aeach spring of each arm adaptedtomaintain said arms in up- 10 Number REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
