The inventi-on relates to improvements in a baby's collapsible crib, as described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form a part of the same.

The invention consists essentially of the novel features of construction as pointed out broadly and specifically in the claims for novelty following a description containing an explanation in detailof an acceptable form of the invention.

The objects of the invention are to devise a baby's crib that is collapsible and which is easily carried in both its collapsed state and when it is open and occupied; to offer a collapsible crib having an accompanying collapsible stand forming a unit that is easily moved and set up in any desired location; to provide a portable collapsible crib for use When travelling that, When closed, is easily kept under a seat or on a baggage rack, and which may :be quickly and easily made ready for use; to eliminate the need of making up a bed for a baby with cushions, etc., when travelling on .a train, plane, etc.: to have a sleeping or resting place for a baby available at all' times; to construct a portable and collapsible baby's crib consisting of few and simple parts, easy and economical to manufacture; and generally to provide a baby's collapsible crib that is neat in appearance, compact and efiicient in its use.

Referring to the drawings, the collapsible crib, as indicated by the numeral IO, is -adapted for use with a stand, II, or it may be used removed from the stand, -as desired, such as by being placed in any desired spot on a bed or seat, or on the floor. As used on the stand, the crib may be placed alongside a bed, being level with the bed to Iplace the baby within easy reach of the parent or other person occupying same.

The crib is made of any suitable pliable material, such as cloth, canvas, etc., the material preferably being water or moisture proof. The cribis preferably rectangular in shape and consists, in this instance, of a single piece of material forming the bottom 12 turned up to form the longitudinal sides I 3 and l. The ends l5 and 16 are separate pieces of material suitably joined in position to the side portions I3 and I4 and to the bottom I2.

The top edge of eachof the sides I3 and l4 is turned inward and down and stitched at I'I to form a compartment I8 therealong into which a rigid rim member, I9 and 20 res-pectively, is secured. Each rim member consists of a wooden or metal rod to which suitable handles, 2I and 22 respectively, are movably secured, these handles preferably being made of the same pliable material as that of the body of the crib, and lead from the rods through cut-out sections in the turned down top edge of the sides I3 and I4.

Each of the sides l3 and |4 is provided with lining, such as a

quilted lining

23 and 24 respectively, suitably secured to the inside face of the side portion. These quilted linings form inner side walls to the crib, acting as stiffeners to their respective side portions of the crib, and also provide the crib with padded sides.

A removable rigid section 25, placed on the bottom of the crib, provides rigidity tov the pliable bottom I2. This section 25 may be in the forlm of a board or any other suitable rigid materia A suitable and individual mattress 2G fits on the rigid bottom member 25, Ithe mattress .cover preferably being of water or moisture proof material, and the mattress being soft and pliable.

VEach of the ends I5 and IG has a padded section, 21 and 28 respectively, suitably secured to its upper or free end, such as by being sewn thereto. These sections or flaps may be quilted as are the

linings

23 and 24, and are ad-apted to be turned down into the open crib. The flaps of course, need not be quilted or padded and could be an extension of the end piece and integral therewith.

In its use, the crib is opened up by the' rigid rims IS and 20 being drawn apart and having end boards V29 'and 30 placed one at either end of the crib against the inside face of the pliable end I5 `or 16 as the case may be. These end boards Iare approximately the height and Width of the crib and are made of wood or metal, providing a separate and rigid inner end wall, preventing the sides I3 and M from collapsing. After the end boards have been placed in position, the

21 and 28 are turned down into the crib and over the end boards.

The opened crib may now easily be carried, With or without a baby in it by meansof the handles 2l Vand A22 which are suitably positioned on the rods I9 and 28.

In closing the crib for storing or carrying, the

end boards

29 and 38 are removed and placed .on top of the mattress, the rigid bottom member 25 and mattress being left in position if desired; the sides of the crib being collapsed and fi'attened down on top of the mattress, therigid top ,edges of the sides being brought together. 'The handles 2I and 22 being tuclied down under the sides or left out, as desired. The collapsed crib maylhave a strap placed around itJif desired to hold it together when carryingzsame, or it may-be ytucked under a person's arm and easily carried in this manner. The ends of the handles are looped around the rods and are movable thereon, perniitting the handles to ,eXtend up-ward or be turned down inside the crib, and may, when -the crib is closed, be left projectng upward.

The stand .Ii consists of a framework, preferably of tubular members lmade of any suitable material, such as aluminum, and comprises the z .ends :3.1 and .32, each of which -is-made of a'single piece of material bent to a somewhat oval shape, and having

These braces 38 and .39 are .in turn, -pivotally `mounted. to 'a bracket 45 and .41 .resp.ectively, which lis slidably mounted on the .cross-piece .3-l'. The brace 38 `extends from the bracket V45 to the cross-member -44 of the leg member vfill and is detachably connected to the .bracket 45 .and held in position by a wing nut 48. The brace z39 `extends -from its bracket 41 to the cross.member.44 of the lleg member 4! and `is similarly detachably connected to the bracket 45 .and secured .in position by a wing lnut 53.
