An object is to provide an improved and simplified structure readily conpen.
A ea-ariszet-vttiwiia fiei eag provide an article of the type indicat e d which will conform ggne'fag iy tothe conventional appearanceofz th a (113,121 play pen and-which w-ill embp d a o the ady antages as to adjustab lity and t he l i lge of conventional crib when contracted to the crib size.
Further objects will more particularly appear;
iiiili goees of the sl, stalle ar 'ljhea nvention consists in 't e o a. tiofi, arrangement and combinations i hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
Two sheets of drawings accompany this specification as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the present invention showing the device contracted to crib form;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the present invention showing the initial stage of expanding the crib into a play pen;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the improved device expanded into the play pen form;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary detail of one corner of the expansible side panel structure;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary cross section taken on line 5--5 of Figure 4;
' Figure 6 is a fragmentary plan view of the right hand front corner of Figure 1;
Figure 7 is a fragmentary cross section taken on line T'I of Figure 1, and
Figure 8 is a fragmentary cross section taken on line 88 of Figure 3.
The drawings illustrate one embodiment of the present invention and show conventional head and foot board panels I, each associated with conventional bed posts 3, the two head and foot panels l--l being rigidly associated by a side panel 2 herein illustrated as comprising rail members 4 spaced by a plurality of slats 5.
The inner faces of the corner posts 3 are provided with spaced hook members II) by means of which the bottom 1 can be supported at adjustable heights as by hangers ll.
. The bottom comprises two similar planar panels 6 and I which are hingedly associated as by hinges V g a s if. he e en lss teat with? ed e eet qs e16" folded bacliiiit'o superuse" iri'tlie 6153b. (in massaging vjvherfth' sateen steers is raiaeabuiwardiws illustrated in Figure BTinto afcoiifinon'iilan'witfithebott I: papen, the sprin" a'ifd-mattrssstrficturedepend below theb'ottom panllil M An expansible'frofit panel is provided for the frame of the bed comprising a plurality of similar panels I4 associated by their adjacent vertical edges by means of hinges IS. The outermost panels I4-I4 are hingedly mounted upon suspension rods l 2I 2 carried by the front bed posts 3-3, and are both rotatable and slidable on these rods [2 so that the height of the expansible panel as an entirety can be readily adjusted.
Conventional latches I! are provided so that the sections M of the expansible front panel can be secured both in their folded position as illustrated in Figure 1, and in their expanded position as illustrated in Figure 3.
For securing the expansible front panel in various positions the rods l2 may conveniently be provided with spaced notches I3, as illustrated in Figure 4, and latch members 20 will be secured against the rear faces of the end sections l4, these latch members 20 being normally biased into latching position as by springs 2| and manipulated by handles 22. Any convenient latch means can be substituted and various other variations in the precise structure will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art, both with respect to the artistic design and details of arrangement, but within the scope of the present invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. Convertible crib and play pen comprising head and foot boards, a side panel rigidly associating said head and foot boards, a bottom comprising two flat panels hingedly connected by adjacent edges, spring and mattress structure mounted on the upper face of the upper of said bottom panels, a second side panel comprising a plurality of sections hingedly associated by their adjacent vertical edges, said sections proportioned to constitute a side panel for the crib when folded into overlaid position and to constitute a side panel and supplemental foot and head boards when extended to conform with the top panel of the bottom when the latter is unfolded to bring the spring and mattress structure on its under side, and means hingedly associating the end sections of said second panel with the head and foot boards respectively.
2. Convertible crib and play pen comprising head and foot boards, a side panel associating said head and foot boards, a bottom comprising two flat panels the size of the crib said panels hingedly connected by adjacent edges, spring and mattress structure mounted on the upper face of the top panel when the latter is folded over the bottom panel, an expansible side panel comprising a plurality of sections hingedly associated by adjacent vertical edges, the end sections of said expansible panel mounted by their outer vertical edges to hinge and slide vertically with respect to the head and foot boards, means for removably securing the sections of the expansible side panel selectively in open and folded relationship and means for supporting the bottom at selected heights with respect to the head and foot boards. 3. Convertible criband play pen comprising a frame including parallel spaced end panels and a connecting side panel, a removable bottom, means for vertically adjusting the bottom with respect to the frame, the bottom comprising two flat panels hingedly associated by adjacent edges, spring and mattress mounted on the upper face of the upper bottom panel when the latter is superposed on the other bottom panel, an expansible side .panel comprising a plurality of sections hingedly connected by adjacent vertical edges, means for pivotally and slidingly associating the end sections of said expansible side panel with the end panels, and means for securing said hinged sections in both folded and expanded positions.
4. Convertible crib and play pen comprising a bottom formed of two planar panels associated by hinges on adjacent edgesto permit-folding one over the other or into a common plane as desired,
spring and mattress structure secured to the upper face of one panel when said panels are in superposed position, fixedly associated frame post member-s, side and end panels, spaced and arranged to support said superposed bottom panels, supplementary side panels and means for adjustably associating said supplementary panels with respect to each other and the frame posts to conform with the perimeter of the bottom in go both folded and unfolded position.
