IMPROVEMENT IN LOOM-PICKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,261, dated June 25, 1878; application filed July 27, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES G. GARLAND, of Biddeford, Maine, have invented certain Improvements in Loom-Pickers, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to strengthen the rod-head of aloom-pioker; and consists in providing a piece of rawhide or other suitable material, having its length equal to the distance through the rod-hole, and its width such that when it is placed inside of the rodhead of the picker it shall furnish a complete, or nearly complete, lining for the said rodhead, and shall extend into the web of the picker far enough to be fastened by the rivets usually put through the web below the rodhole.
The strengthening-piece may or may not have its edges or sides chamfered or wedgeshaped, and may or may not have a piece of hide, sometimes making the center of the web, extend to the rod-hole, between its edges or sides.
Figure 1 is aperspective View, and Fig. 2 is an end View, full size, of a loom-picker embodying my improvement. Fig. 3 is an end View of one form, and Fig. 4 is end viewof an other form, of my improvement. Fig. 5 is a side View of strengthening-piece.

A represents the web of a loom-picker. B represents the rod-hole. 0 represents the rodhead. 1) D show the end of strengtheningpiece. E E represent the usual wrapping, sometimes of one thickness, sometimes of two or more thicknesses. F is a piece extending from the rod-hole to the ball, sometimes put in to make the web of the required thickness. G Gr Gr are rivets put through web. H represents the ball.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters, Patent- The picker provided with the piece D D inside of the usual bent or doubled-over hide, forming the rod-head, and extending into the web, substantially as shown and described.
