Description

fer.
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrron.
JAMES G. GARLAND, OF BIDDEFORD, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO THE LOOM- 'PIOKER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN. LOQM-PICKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,459, dated November 3, 1874; application filed September 10, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that, JAMES G. GARLAND, of
' Biddeford, in the county of York and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Loom-Pickers, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a wedge-shaped piece of rawhide or other material, having its length on the thick and thin edges equal to the distance through the rod-hole of the picker, and so placed between the folded material of which the picker is made as to be immediately under and in contact with the rod, the thick edge of the wedge-shaped piece lying next to and parallel with the rod.
By the use of the wed ge-shaped piece above mentioned, I obviate the necessity of complete 1y encircling the rod by the folded material of the picker, and thus prevent the cramp and strain of the material at the point where it is brought together when a wed ge-shaped piece is not used.
Figure l is an end view of a loom-picker of full size embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, full size, of a loom-pick- Fig. 3 is an end view of the wedge-shaped piece inserted between the folded part H H, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a side view of the wedgeshaped piece.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a loom-picker, full size. B
represents the rod-hole. 0 represents the end of the wedge-shaped piece under the rod-hole. H H represent the edge of the material forming the picker folded to form the rod-hole, and extended down by the sides of the piece 0 to the point E, thence together to form the remainder of the picker. L is the thick edge, and E the thin edge, of the wedge-shaped piece.
The folded material may be of one or more thicknesses, and may be of any desired form at the ball T.
The wedge-shaped piece under the rod not only serves to strengthen the rod'head, but serves to complete the hole, which cannot be done when the wedge-piece is not used; also, there are more material and strength to resist wear from the picker-driving-stick at D.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat- The picker having the wedge-shaped piece G, of rawhide or other material inserted between the folded parts H H and under the rodhole, so as to be parallel with and contiguous to the rod-hole substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
JAMES G. GARLAND.
