WITN SES': INVEMORL I BY ATTORNEYS. I
N.PETER5, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON a C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. ROBERTSON, OF PEEKSKILL, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO 7 SOUTHARD, ROBERTSON & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
- 4 (IMPROVEMENT lN STOVE-SHEILVESI Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,944, dated May 21, 1878; application filed April 3, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ROBERT- SON, of Peekskill, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section of my improved stove-shelf. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same. I
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to improve and render more convenient the ordinary cooking-stove.
My invention consists in a novel device for attaching a shelf to the end of the stove.
Referring to the drawing, A is a shelf, which may be of any ornamental design, and of a size appropriate to the stove to which it is applied. This shelf is provided with ears at, having the pivots b, which project toward the center line of the shelf.
The ears a are curved, so as to pass under the edge of the stove-top, and their pivots b are received by notched ears 0, one of which is fastened to the stove by means of a bolt, d. Upon the under surface of the shelf A there is a curved and tapered rib, e, which is notched to receive the end of the bracketf, which supports the shelf in a horizontal position. The bracket f is provided with two pivots, g h. The lower pivot h is received by a hole in the upper edge of the raised barrel 1', which is formed in casting the stove end. The upper pivot of the bracket is received in a hole formed in the end plate near the upper edge in a'similar manner.
By slightly lifting the shelf, so as to relieve the bracket f from the notch in the rib e, the bracket is relieved, so that it may be folded against the end of the stove, when the shelf A may be let down against the end of the stove.
It will be observed that by this construction I am enabled to attach the shelf to the stove by simply bolting one of the ears 0 to the end plate of the stove.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The shelf A, having the inclined and notched rib e, the bracket f, having pivots g h, in combination with a stove end having apertures adapted to the pivots of the bracket, and having ears 0 for supporting the shelf-pivots, substantially as herein shown and described.
