Description

(No Model.)
E. KUHN.
. OUTSIDE OVEN SHELF. '.N0.'423,480. Patented Mar. 18, 1890.
UNITED` STATES YPATENT OFFICE.
A EDMUND KUHN, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
OUTSIDE OVEN-SHELF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 423,480, dated March 18, 1890. Application filed November ll, 1889. Serial No. 329,860. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND KUHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inOutside Oven-Shelves; and I do declare'the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains t-o make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
Mylnvention relates to outside oven-shelves for stoves and ranges; and its object is to .furnish an outside oven-shelf to be used on the sides of cook stoves and ranges directly under the oven-door. I accomplish this by means illustrated `in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a perspective view of thev side of a stove having my out-side shelf in position. Fig.l 2 is a similar view with the shelf removed, showing the hook and lugs by which my shelf is held in position. Fig'. 3 is a detail view of part of the back of the -side plate of the stove, showing a modification of the hook and means for pivoting and fastening my hook when made movable; and Fig. 4 is detail sectional view of part of the side plate of the stove and of the shelf, showing` the relation of the hook when made movable to the shelf and side of the stove. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the bottom of my oven-shelf, showing the slot for the hook.
Similarletters refer 'to-similar parts throughout the several figures.
. A indicates the side of the stove or range, and a. represents an oven-door of the usual pattern.
B represents my outside shelf, and h a slot in same for the reception of the supportinghook.
C represents the supporting-hook; C. ,a retaining back flange on same.
c c represent supporting-lugs; c c', retaining-lugs; c2 c2, swivel-lugs; c3, the swivel-pin, and c4 a retaining catch or button.
The shelf B is cast separate from the stove,
and can be put in position in a few seconds without bolts, screws, or other contrivances. Ordinarily I cast the hook C, as well as the lugs c and c', as shown in Fig. 2,in `one piece with the side A; but the hook Omay be made separate and movable and attached to the side A by a swivel-pin, so that it can be pushed through a slot in the side A to engage the sloth in the shelf, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. When this modification of the hook is used, the retaining-fiange C prevents it from coming too far forward through the slot in side'A,` and the retaining-button C4 holds it firmly in position to engage the slot in the shelf.
When the shelf is put in position on the side of the stove, the hook C lits' in the slot b in the shelf and prevents it from pulling off forward or slipping endwise'. The lugs c c support t-he shelf, and the lugs c c', placed near the ends of the shelf and so as to bear on itsupper surface when it is resting on the hook C and the lugs c c, prevent it from falling down.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-l 1. The combination of the shelf having a p slot, as shown, with the stove or `range 'provided with a hook C, adapted to it in the slot in the shelf, and lugs c and c', arranged in different planes, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the shelf having a slot, as shown, with the stove or range provided with lugs c and c', arranged in different planes, a slot-intermediate said lugs, and
a hook adapted .to work in said slot and to be held in contact with the shelf by means sub-Y stantially as described. I
3. The combination, with the stove or range having a slot in its side, of a hook C, adapted to work in said slot and to be held in position by means substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. EDMUND KUHN.
