The cover` 23 is troughshaped and telescopeszolver the topA for the'ejector op- 'as leading from the magazine l1 2 Y erating mechanism I9, and the lower end of said partition being spaced a short distance above the lower wall 21 of the front casing member 2l to provide an opening 35 through which the ejector I8 passes during its operation, in the manner hereinafter described. wall 29 of the casing member 22'rests adjacent the inside of the end wall 5 of the handbag and the casing 28 is provided with a discharge opening 36 leading from the bottom of the magazine I1 through the end of the casing which lies adjacent the end wall 5 of the hand bag, the end walls 25 and 29 of the casing members 2IV and 22 being cut away to provide such opening. The discharge opening 36 of the magazine I1 registers with an outlet 31 in the lower part of the end wall 5 of the hand bag. The lower wall 21 of the casing member 20 is extended through the outlet 31 in the end wall 5 of the hand bag and the end of said extension of said lower wall 21 is bent downwardly in the form of a flange 38 over the lower edge of said outlet against the outside of said end wall 5 of the hand bag. The side wall 25 of the rear casing member 22 and the side wall 29 of the front casing member 2I terminate at 39 to form the upper edge of the discharge opening 36. The end of the front wall 24 of the front casing member 2l, and the end of the rear wall 28 of the rear casing member 22, are extended through the outlet 31 in the end wall 5 of the hand bag, and said extensions of said walls are bent over the side edges of said outlet in the form of external flanges 49 and 4I, resting and engaged against the outside of said end wall 5 of the hand bag. The extension of the walls 21, 24 and 28 of the casing 28 through the outlet 31 in the end wall 5 of the bag provide an unobstructed discharge opening through said end wall of the bag and tie the casing to the bag while holding the lower end of the casing members 2I and 22 together. A flap 42 is secured to the inside of the end wall 5 of the bag, as at 43, and normally extends below the upper edge of the outlet 31 in said end wall over the dischargeV opening 36 in the'casing mg. Y
In the magazine I1 are placed cigarettes 43 or other articles to be dispensed, such as chewing gum, candy and the like, the lowermost article resting upon the lower wall 21 of the front casing member 2| with its forward end in registration with the discharge opening 36 of the magazine, as illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawing. AV follower 44 is mounted inside of the casing cover 23 to be positioned in the magazine I1 above the articles 43 in the magazine, said follower comprising a follower plate 45, which bears upon the uppermost article 43, and a spring 46 secured at its lower ends to said plate, as at 41, and at its upper end to the under side of the top wall of the casing cover 23, as at 48, which spring urges said follower plate against said uppermost article and holds the articles 43 compactly t0- gether in the magazine I1 and the lowermost article against the lower wall 21 of the casing member 2I with suflicient friction to prevent said lowermost article from slipping out of the discharge opening 36.
The ejector I8 may comprise a single piece of strip metal bent U-shape to form an ejecting head 58, and bent upwardly at one end in the form of a connecting member 5I.
The ejector operating mechanism I9 comprises an operating stud shaft 52, anoperating button 53 on said shaft, an arm 54 on said shaft, a sleeve 20, and closes said open- The button 53 is ornamental and adds end of said arm, and a U-shaped spring member 56. The shaft 52 extends through the front wall 2 of the hand bag I and through the front wall 24 of the front casing member 2l into the casing compartment 34 for the ejector operating mechanism, said shaft being journaled insaid front wall 24 of said casing member. The button 53 is secured on the outer end of the operating shaft 52 adjacent the outside of the front wall 2 of the hand bag, the closing flap 1 of the hand bag being provided with a notch 51 to receive said button and perm' turning thereof.
to the attractiveness of the hand bag. The arm 54 is secured on the inner end of the operating shaft 52 within the compartment 34. The U-shaped spring member 56 is fitted within the compartment 34 with its intermediate member 51 adjacent the upper horizontal flange 33 of the front casing member 2|, and its arm members 58 and 59 bea-ring respectively against the vertical partition 32 and the end wall 26 of said front casing member. The lower end portion of the arm member 59 slidably extends through the sleeve 55 on the lower end of the arm 54 and the end of said arm member is hooked through the upper end of the ejector connecting member 5 I as at 68, and is thus pivotally connected to said connecting member.
Theoperation, uses and advantages of mvinvention are as follows:
Normally the button 53 andthe flap 42 are in the position shown in Figure 1, and the mechanism and articles 43 within the dispenserV I3 are in the position shown in Figure When it is desired to dispense a cigarette, the button 53 is grasped and turned clockwise, as illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing, whereupon the 4shaft 52 and arm 54 are correspondingly turned, and the sleeve 55 engaging and sliding upon the lower portion of the arm member 59 of the U-shaped spring member 56 swings the lower end of said arm member andthe ejector I8 to the I8, on being thus moved toward the left, passes through the opening 33 below the lower end of the partition 32, and the forward end or head 50 of the ejector engages the rear end of the lowermost cigarette 43 and partly ejects said cigarette from the magazine I1, the forward end portion of the cigarette passing out of the magazine through the discharge opening 36 and raising the flap 42 above said discharge opening to permit such ejection of the cigarette, as illustrated in Figure 2. The cigarette may then be grasped by its forward end and completely withdrawn from the magazine 'I1 through the discharge opening 36, whereupon the remaining cigarettes descendk in the magazine I 1 until the lowermost cigarette rests upon the bottom of the magazine in position to be ejected from the magazine, while the flap 42 drops over the discharge opening 36. Upon releasing the button 53, the dispenser mechanism shown in Figure 5l is returned to its normal position, as shown in said figure, by the spring action of the arm member 59, and said button is likewise returned to its normal position, as shown in Figure 1.
If for any reason, when a cigarette has been partly ejected from the bag by the ejecting mechanism, as illustrated in Figure 2, it is desired not` to withdraw said cigarette, said cigarette may be pushed back into the magazine I1 and the flap 42 allowed to drop over the discharge opening 36.'
By means of my dispenser cigarettes may be carried in the hand bag within a small space and 55 on the outer 5 of the drawing.
