Description

Patented Feb. 22, 1938 MULTIPLE GOMPARTMENT DISPENSING GABINET Wesley S. Corbin, Ridley Park, Pa., assiznor to Scott Paper Company, Chester, Pa., a corporation of Pennsylvania Application December 14, 1935, sensi No. 54,498
1 cizim. wiem-152) The principal object of this invention is to provide a' practical unitary structure combining a paper towel dispenser and a utility cabinet having shelves upon which may be placed a brush and comb and such articles as cosmetics and medrbeing kept under lock and key in the dispensing.
compartment and being periodically replenished by. a service man, the unit also providing the customer with a separately accessible utility compartment for his personal convenience.
With the foregoing objects in mind, a further object of the invention is to provide a unit cabinet of the stated Character having the required compactness of form and ornamentai appearance.
In the attached drawing: i Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a cabinet made in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of the cabinet showing the interior of the utility compartment and the manner in which access is had thereto;'
Fig. 3 is a view in perspective illustrating the interior of the towel-dispensing compartment and the manner of access to the latter, and y Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4, Fig. 3. With reference to the drawing, the embodiment of my invention therein illustrated comprises a rear or base structure I forming the casing of the towel-dispensing compartment and comprising a rear wall 2, side walls 3, 3 and top and bottom walls 4 and 5 respectively. The front wall of this compartment is formed by the rear wall 6 of a casing 1, which in the present instance is hinged' at 8 to one of the Vertical edges of the base structure I. The bottom wall 5 of the base structure I is inclined upwardly away from the rear wall 2 and is provided with a transverse slot 9 having a central depression II in its lower edge. The compartment formed in the base 'structure I is designed to receive a stack |2 of paper towels in which the individual towels are supported at an inclination determined by the angle of incline of the bottom wall 5. The towels forming the stack are folded in well known manner so that, as shown in-Fig. 4, one free edge II of the lowermost towel of the stack extends into the slot 9 in readily accessible position permitting withdrawal of 'the towel from the compartment. 5 The central depression II of the lower edge of the slot 9 facilitates the withdrawal operation in obvious manner.
The casing 1, in addition to the rear wall which as previously described forms the closure 10 for the towel-dispensing compartment, comprises side walls Il, Il which in the normal position of the casing with respect to the base structure I and as shown in'Flgs. 1 and 2 form continuations of the side walls 3, 3 of the base 15 structure I. The casing also comprises topland bottom walls IS, IS which in like'manner form continuations of the top and bottom walls, 4 and 5 respectively, of. the base structure I. To the forward edge of one of the side walls Il, preferably that oneof the side walls which lies (m the oppositeside of the cabinet from the hinge I. is hinged, as indicatedat Il, a door I'I which forms a closure for the rutility compartment formed in the casing 'I. This door preferably is provided with a' mirror panel Il. As shown in Fig. 2, the vutility compartment may be provided with shelves IS for reception of brush and comb and any medicines, cosmetics or supplies that may be desired. i
In accordance with vmy invention, I may provide suitable means, as indicated at 2|, 2| in Fig. 3, for looking the casing 'I in position closing the towel-dispensing compartment, this lock being manipulated to release the casing and to provide access to the dispensing compartment by means of a suitable key insertedin the keyhole 22. By this means, the towel-dispensing compartment in the base structure I may be made accessible to a duly authorized person only, 40 thereby preventing tamperingwith the towels, or removal of the towels in bulk or except by individual withdrawalfrom the slot 9. The cabinet is so constructed that access to the utility compartment is entirely independent of, and does 45 not afiord access to, the towel compartment. n The device, therefore, is well suited for use by paper towel supply services, wherein the service man alone is in possession of the key aflording access to the towel compartment. lSuitable locking means may also be provided for the door- I'I of the utility compartment, the key in this case being retained by the customer, it being noted that access by the service man to the 'towel com- 56 partment does not require access to the utility compartment.
A cabinet made in accordance with my invention is characterized by the relative compactness of form, particularly as to width and height, required in a cabinet of this character; is capable of suitably ornamental design treatment; and meets in full degree all the requirements of a device of this class.
I claim:
A unitary combined towel dispensing and utility cabinet comprising a rear casing section having a back panel and upper, side and bottom walls extending forwardly from the respective edges of said panel to provide a compartment with an open front, said rear section being adapted for' reception of a towel pack and said bottom wall having an aperture through which said towels may be individually withdrawn from the cabinet, a forward casing section hinged to the front edge of one of the side walls of said rear section comprising a rear panel of a size to close the open front of said rear section and provided with a smooth, continuous rear surface, and upper, side and bottom walls extending forwardly from said rear panel and forming continuations of the upper, side and bottom walls of said rear section, said forward section and the rear panel thereof being thereby adapted to form a closure for the front of said rear section and presenting an uninterrupted smooth surface on the rear of the front compartment, and a door hinged to the forward edge of a wall of said forward section, the hinge for the door being on a wall opposite the hinge between the forward and rear sections.
