JAMES W. MCGARRETT, JR, OF NASHUA, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COPY-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,060, dated April 30, 1878; application filed February 28, 1878.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMIES WiLsoN MCGAR- RETT, Jr., of Nashua, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Copy-Holders, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved copy-holder. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for holding the copy for children when learning to write, which shall be simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, and convenient in use, being so constructed that it may be moved down the page as the Writ-in g progresses, so that the learner may always have his copy directly before him, instead of using the line last written as a copy for the next line.
The invention consists in the copy-holder having grooved flanges upon its upper and lower edges, and having feet upon its ends, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the holder, which may be made of tin, wood, or other suitable material, and which has grooved flanges a formed along its upper and lower edges, to receive the edges of the copy to be held. The ends of the body of the holder are bent back diagonally, to form feet or to rest upon the page of the blank book and support the copy at the proper inclination. The feet a may be made separate, and attached to the body of the holder A if desired.
With this device, as the learner writes one line he slides the holder down the space of one line, so that the copy may always be directly before him.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The copy-holder A, having grooved flanges a formed along its upper and lower edges, and bent back diagonally to form feet a as shown and described.
