Description

Janp- 1936- H. z. ROSS 2,027,121
TOILET COMB Filed Feb. 14, 1935 awe/whom Patented Jan. 7, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toilet combs.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a comb of the above-mentioned type which 5 may be safely used without danger of injuring or irritating the scalp.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toilet comb which is constructed to glide smoothly over the scalp regardless of the angle 1 at which the teeth of the comb are positioned with respect to the surface of the scalp.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the follow ing description. j
15 In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, the figure is a side elevational view of the comb embodying this invention. 20 In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration, is shown the preferred embodiment of this invention, the reference character designates the back of the comb. This back may be curved longitudinally, as illustrated, or it may be straight. The opposite ends of the back 5 are provided with relatively large or heavy teeth 6.
Interposed between these end teeth 6 and formed integrally with the back 5 to extend in 30 the same plane as the end teeth 6 are two sets of teeth I and 8 respectively.
7 In the preferred form of the invention, the teeth of the respective sets are alternately arranged so that each indi'vidual tooth I has ar- 35 ranged on opposite sides of the same teeth of the set 8. The teeth of the set designated by the character 8 are of proper length so as to terminate in the same line or plane as the terminals of the end teeth 6. 40 set designated by the character 8 and the .end teeth 6 are provided with terminal enlargements 9 which may be of any desired configuration or contour just so they present a smooth, rounded surface to the scalp of the user. In the pre- 45 ferred form, these terminal enlargements are of spherical configuration. The teeth of the set designated by the character 8 increase in thickness as they approach the back 5 so that these teeth will possess appreciable cross-sectional di- 50 mensions at their points of connection with the back 5.
The teeth of the set designated by the reference character I are made of proper length so that they will terminate at their outer ends in a straight line or plane spaced inwardly from the terminate.
All of the teeth of the line or plane in which the teeth of the set 8 This arrangement of the teeth of the set I so that their terminals will be spaced inwardly from the enlarged terminals of the teeth 8 and the end teeth 6 will cause these large 5 terminals to protect the scalp of the user against any injury or irritation which might be caused by direct contact of the terminals of the teeth I with the scalp.
It will be appreciated that this comb may be 10 formed of any desired or appropriate material, such as hard rubber compositions, aluminum alloys, and the like. The arrangement of the set of teeth I with respect to the set of teeth 8 may be varied as desired. For example, the teeth 8, instead of constituting every other tooth of the comb, may be arranged so that they will constitute every third or every fourth tooth of the comb with two or three teeth of the set I interposed between adjacent teeth of the set 8. In other words, the arrangement of the respective sets need only be such that the smooth rounded terminals of the teeth of the set 8 will protect the scalp of the user against direct contact by the teeth of the set I.
It is to be understood that the form of this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the sub-joined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
1. A toilet comb comprising a back and two sets of teeth with the teeth of one set terminating on a line spaced inwardly from the teeth of the second set, the said second set of teeth being provided with enlarged rounded terminals.
2. A toilet comb comprising a back, a set of teeth having pointed end terminals, and a second set of teeth having enlarged rounded terminals.
3. A comb comprising a back, and two sets of teeth, the teeth of one set being interposed between adjacent teeth of the second set, the said second set of teeth being provided with enlarged rounded terminals.
4. Acomb of the type described comprising a. back, and two sets of teeth, the teeth of one set being of greater length than the teeth of the second set and interposed between adj acent teeth of said second set, the teeth of the first-mentioned set being provided with enlarged terminals.
