Description
Dec. 31, 1935. M. JENAL DEVICE TO RAISE AND LOWER CURTAINS AND DRAPES Filed Sept. 22, 1934 E/ Q a 5 1 P KH IHHHHHI MQ 0 l 2 O m 6 0 m m/4 m .w, HHHUH I IHW IH I INI FNTOQ Patented Dec. 31, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DEVICE TO RAISE AND LOWER CURTAINS AND DRAPES 1 Claim.
The invention relates to improvements as an accessory for use on a window frame to accommodate the dressing of a window for curtains or drapes. The invention illustrated in the drawing is for a domestic type of window.
It is a common practice to insert nails or screws through brackets to upper part of window frame to secure same and to accommodate one or two curtain rods. These curtain rods are adjustable, detachably mounted to brackets on upper part of window frame. In mounting fixtures of this kind and to drape the window it means to climb to accomplish this task which is dangerous. With this device in mind it is possible to attach adjustable curtain rods at a low elevation and-to raise the curtain rods to a desired point of elevation and to hold in this position until it is to be lowered for removal of curtain rods.
This invention is designed of suitable mechanical parts which there are eight devices, four pulley blocks, two cords and two pull rods. One form of the invention is illustrated in accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a vertical front view of the entire device assembled. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of device observed in Fig. I. Fig. 3 is a vertical side View of the assembled device. Fig. 4 is a vertical front view of the device at its lowest elevation. Fig. 5 is an end view of one of the pulleys of the device.
In the drawing of Fig. 1 the window frame is designated by the numeral 9; the horizontal dotted lines numeral III indicate the adjustable curtain rods at their lowest elevation.
In the drawing of pulley block I a hole is provided for shaft 20. On top of pulley block is a flange to accommodate fastener screw I6; below this flange is a dowel II extending from the pulley block, this dowel I'I pierces the wood and 5 keeps pulley block from shifting, the drawing of two will sufiice for the four.
In the pulley block I5 an eccentric pulley 2I is supported by shaft 20. Around these eccentric pulleys 2| is cord I8 supporting pull rod I3 by 10 two knots I9; these knots are for stops. Pull rod 4 I3 floats between lower pulley block I5 and eccentric pulley 2I. The upper pulley block I5 retains pull rod I3. Below the lower pulley block I5 extends the pull rod I3. This extension of pull rod I3 is used as a finger grip 22. On the upper part of pull rod I3 between knots I9 is attached a rivet plate I 4 supporting curtain rod bracket I 2. This pull rod is in the form of a flexible strip provided with three holes to receive the cord I8 The combination with a pair of vertically spaced pulley blocks each having an eccentric pulley mounted therein, of a flexible pull rod supporting bracket and a cord around said pulleys supporting said flexible pull rod in a vertical position from a point between said pulleys.
