Description

Aug. 27, 1935. L. WILLENS El AL 7 CIGARETTE PACKAGE CONTAINER Filed April 5, 1935 l e, o l/ens INVENTORS RNEY Patented Aug. 27, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application April 5, 1935, Serial No. 14,860
3 Claims.
The invention relates to containers of the type adapted to hold a package of cigarettes and containing a plurality of matches for convenient use with the cigarettes. This invention has for one of its main objects to provide a container of improved construction which will bemore convenient as well as safer and more sanitary than any of the containers, of this type, shown in the prior art.'
Another object is to provide a container of neat,
but simple, construction which can be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low price and shown with a package of cigarettesinserted,
2 Fig. 2 is another perspective view shown with covers opened, r
Fig. 3 is a similar view shown with both the match covers opened, and v i Fig. 4 is a plan view showing the blank from which the container is formed.
Referring now to all the views, simultaneously, the container is preferably made from a blank as illustrated in Fig. '4 and consists of a front part I0, 35 a rear part H, two side members i2 and IS, an
' end member i4 having a tongue I5, and two match covers l6 and H. The blank is folded as indi-.
cated by the broken lines and the flap i8 is pasted or otherwise secured to the front part I 0. The
40 container is made of a size suitable to hold a package of cigarettes l9.
A plurality of matches 20, preferably of the paper type is secured on the rear of the container,
as is also a piece of the ordinary striking material 45 2|. The cover It is adapted to be folded over the matches, but a part'of this cover is cut away, as shown at 22, so that the striking material 2| is exposed, even when this cover is closed. The cover H is adapted to be folded over the cover It 50 and is provided with a tongue 22 which fits in a the container, empty and with one of the match container is inserted in the pocket of its user. It will also be noted that the cover It may be folded over. the matches when a match is being lit, thus avoiding any danger of the remaining matches being ignited. The striking material, 5 which always becomes quite soiled after matches have been struck on it, is covered by the cover II when the container is laid away or carried in a pocket or purse. And, furthermore, the cover I! can be used as a shield when a match is lit in 10 a draft or in windy weather.
Having described the invention and its advantages, what we claim as new and wish to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A container of the class described compris-. ing a blank cut and folded to form a compartment for a package of cigarettes, a plurality of matches secured on the outside of the container. a piece ofmatch-striking material secured at the lower engagement withsaid first-mentione'd-cover and for closing the opening therein.
2. A container of the class described comprismg ablank cut and folded to form a compartment l v forapackage of cigarettes, a plurality of matches secured on the outside of the container, apiece of match-striking material secured at the lower end of said matches, a cover for coveringsaid matches, an opening formed in said-cover for P a exposing said match-striking material when the; v,
cover is closed, a second cover for overlapping- 5 engagement with said first-mentioned cover and for closing the opening therein, and means for locking the outer cover to the inner cover.
3. A container of the class described comprising a blank cut and folded to form a compart- 40 ment for a package of cigarettes, a plurality of matches secured on the outside of the container,
5. piece of match-striking material secured at the lower end of said matches, a cover for covering said matches, an opening formed in said cover for exposing said match-striking material when the cover is closed, a second cover for overlapping engagement with said first-mentioned cover and for closing the opening therein, means for locking the outer cover to the inner cover, and the outercover actingnns a shield when a match is being lit.
